What is the point of the memory setting?

Using Windows 10 - if I increase this over 1280 - then the application will not start. I know it says the selected amount of memory needs to be free..but I am selecting between 1280-1500 and I have 16 Gb RAM.

What am I missing? thanks

if you use a 32 bit java, this will be the cause

a) try to switch to a 64 bit java
b) try not to extend the memory setting above 1G (tbh, tmm does not need much memory - even with the largest testbed I've got, I did not exceed the 1G memory cap..)

Thank you, I will see if I downloaded 32bit Java by mistake
