H265 encoded 4K video not working
#1
Hi,

I'm trying to view a sample video, H265/HEVC encoded 4K on my Nvidia Shield TV. Screen goes black and after a while I see a dialog that the app closed due to a problem.

Equipment is: Nvidia Shield TV -> Denon AVR 1911 receiver (NOT 4K ready, will be upgrading soon) -> Samsung 4K TV. All HDMI connected

Test movie: http://downloads.4ksamples.com/downloads....2160p.mkv. Details are shown here: http://4ksamples.com/elysium-2013-2160p-...e-footage/

I can't find an option to attach a file so debug information is inserted below. (Looks like a refresh rate issue. Kodi is set to change automatically. Works well in most cases).

File plays in other applications: SPMC, video player and VLC (no sound though)

Thanks in advance
Morten

1. please use pastebin for posting logs and put the link to the logfile instead of the log itself on forum postings. I will do it after that posting

2. also in that logfile we can't see anything because you cutted the specific part. Always paste full logfiles with debug logging enabled

for instructions please read: Debug Log

Hope this is right... I tried it again. This time the video actually played after I pressed the back button a couple of times. Initially screen just goes black.

If anyone is interested in this I solved the issue by turning off refresh rate auto switching. The video now works as expected. Playback isn't super smooth - guessing it's because of 24 fps/60 fps mismatch. So for now I assume it has to do with my receiver not being 4K capable. For some reason a "jellyfish, 150 mbps, H.264" test movie is really stuttering. Plex plays both videos flawlessly btw... Anyways, I'll park this for now.

Please disable Passthrough completely and retry with speakers set to 2.0 channels.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Hey - works better. I still need to turn off auto refresh rate. With 2
0 sound and no pass through the image is much smoother than before. Sound of course is not so impressive Wink

The sample has error in HEVC encoding. It fails this requirement in HEVC specifications:

Quote:The value of SubWidthC * ( conf_win_left_offset + conf_win_right_offset ) shall be less than pic_width_in_luma_samples, and the value of SubHeightC * ( conf_win_top_offset + conf_win_bottom_offset ) shall be less than pic_height_in_luma_samples.
The actual resolution and the values derived from SPS parameters don't match. This may partly explain the problems with playback.
