XBMC & Component Video Settings ?
#1
I've got an older pre-HDMI/DVI 1080i RPTV that has Component Video (480P/1080i) and VGA which supports the same spec as the component video.

Using a DVI to VGA adapter for the Mini which settings in XBMC would mirror the standard 1080i component video standard? IE Sync, Refresh, Etc.

Any help?

First i would find the exact native resolution of the TV. Since you said it does 1080i, then its probably a 1280x768 display? Try setting XBMC to 720p.

Yeah check the manual for your TV and see what the supported resolutions using VGA input. I think the 720p setting in XBMC does less than the actual display settings in OS X though.

These are the settings which the 16:9 RPTV CRT handle. Ideally I want to get the 1920x1080i setting working (of course).

I've yet to get any of the OSXBMC settings working on the TV itself but it's a trial and error.

Is there any detailed documentation what each of the OSXBMC settings is comprised of. The XBMC settings Wiki wouldn't be of help since the settings have changed when ported over to Mac OSX.

Help?

Don't think about setting the resolution in XBMC rather setting it in OS X. Plug your mini and and go to the displays system preference. See if the resolutions are supported. If not download SwitchresX, do a ton of reading Wink

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the resolution settings in XBMC (Video Hardware) are almost totally useless...

I've spent weeks on this already with SwitchresX and havent got anywhere. I can get close but the problem seems to be that the Switchres settings are slightly different then those bellow and I havent had any luck is being able to translate one in to another.

Hopefully someone knows how to translate, or has something similar configed that I could copy over.

My origional thought was that OSXBC had some stock "standard" res settings that would work since the XBOX version worked over component and the component (and VGA) jacks on my TV support standard component settings. I just need to get the mini to output it via DVI to VGA.

You run in to the same problems. It may tell you the H & V res but not all the other timing and sync values you need to know.

I would do some googling for your specific model and OS X/Mac mini... Also see if Switchres X has some forums included on it. I'm not trying to brush you off, and other may have more info here later but I think there might be better information available out there in a more generic forum. Out of curiosity what's the Make/Model of your TV?

Thanks I'll keep on the look-out. Been trying to find some good SwitchResX forum.

The TV is a Pioneer SD-533HD5 which is almost exactly the same as the SD-643HD5 just different screen size.

If you can get in touch with him somehow via macrumors you might be able to squeeze a config file outta him... Sucky thing is every TV needs a different configuration, I had to do a bunch of tweaking to get the screen size to match the display size for my Panasonic Plasma.

Thanks, I've actually talked to him before. He never actually used it on that TV so he didn't have a config. He forwarded me to someone elese that did get it working and provided the timing/sync/etc I already posted but wasn't able to do much else since he was using a windows machine.

That sucks, I'm not sure I can be of much help then... Just to keep you in the right direction SwitchresX is where you want to be looking. From what I can tell the Resolution settings in OS X XBMC seem to be left over from the good old "Xbox" days.
