Solved Cannot Copy/Paste from within Linux to Kodi
#1
Hi,

In Windows, I am able to copy a string of text and paste it into Kodi. I'm trying to do the same in Kodi for Linux, but nothing's working for me.
Ctrl+v, Shift+Insert, etc.

Is there a command for this or is this not an option in Kodi for Linux? Is there a workaround?

No. It's not implemented.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

I always thought that Kodi didn't support copy/paste, didn't know you could do it in Windows. One way you can do it is with the Kassi remote in Google Chrome. Basically, select the text box in Kodi so the on screen keyboard appears. Then in Kassi click 'Send Text' and paste you text into box and send it.

I wonder why this is implemented in Windows and not in Linux? It would be a really handy feature to have.

Patches welcome - there is actually an open PR for that and on review minimal changes were requested -> you can pick them up if you want.

This sounds like good news, if only I knew what it meant. Sorry for my ignorance.

I'd love to, but I wouldn't know where to begin I'm afraid.

It will work in v18 for the Wayland build.

As in for Linux distributions running Wayland and not x11?

Yes, but it's not the only prerequisite. You must have a distribution that supports Wayland, you must actually run your desktop with Wayland (and not the X11 fallback), and you must run Kodi built for Wayland (corresponding Ubuntu packages will be available for v18).

The only way to send text to kodi on Linux is via json-rpc request, but you have to have "allow remote control from application on other systems" enabled. Anxdpanic's playthis addon + browser extension can do it for instance.
