Can't run KODI: PulseAudio: Failed to connect context
#1
Hi,
I've just installed Kodi 17.5 first time on the new machine (Linux x86-64).
When I try to run Kodi I receive error. I installed pulseaudio.
I would like to use HDMI output.
What should I do to fix this?
TIA,

Please fix your xserver / driver which is not running.

Thanks to your instructions I've managed to install Kodi on Ubuntu server 17.10.:-) Thank you
There is something strange with the audio output since I can select many devices from the list (see log above) but in fact I have only one analog output Realtek ALC887 device and one HDMI...

No Debug Log - no issue ... I have no crystal balls.

From the other log you posted in the other threads: It's just one Analog Device and three more for your HDMI / DVI / DP-HDMI ports.

I use Asrock J3455M mothermoard which supports three graphics output options: D-Sub, DVI-D and HDMI
So I assume that only HDMI has audio output.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/J3455M/?c...ifications

Yesterday I tested Kodi with only LCD display connected (DVI without sound) and video playback was fine.
Today I connected motherboard to my TV (via HDMI) to test audio and video but unfortunately there is no sound and no video at all.
see log:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25893051/
I try several audio settings but with no satisfactory results.
What should I change in my settings?

Set speakers to 2.0, disable Passthrough completely.

Thanks,
Now I have audio and video :-)
I suspect that the issue with no audio/video was not only connected with audio setting but also with video.
I change system settings/video/color managenent off and is fine.

I tried to connect TV to AC3/DTS receiver ( via optical cable to have 5.1 sound) but with no success.
Do you thing that HDMi/spdif splitter for example:
https://www.amazon.com/CoolDigital-Extra...B01MT295TN
will work?

No. Do it sane and everything will work. Most TVs can't route through DTS.

What might work:

Channels: 2.0 (yeah, don't ask about 5.1 - it's pcm - see my signature)
Passthrough: Enabled
Ac3: Enabled
Dolby Transcode: Enabled

All the rest: disabled.

That way your TV might (!) forward AC3 to the AVR.

What was the reason again to not plug in the PC directly into the AVR?

Currently I have relatively old AVR wchich support max DTS 96/24 (including 5.1 AC3) and only optical/electrical SPDIF inputs.
I thougt that audio digital signall from PC/Koddi pass through my TV and by opical Spdif cable I connect it to AVR but it not works.
So HDMI splitter (which could split video/SPDIF signal from PC/Kodi) came to my mind.

Try what I have written in the post before. Always provide a Debug Log

I've tried. Only audio 2.0 content is audible on my AVR.
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25894795/
So it seems like my TV restrict 5.1 PCM

I tell you again.

Your TV will never accept and forward 5.1 PCM - as SPDIF / Optical is 2.0 PCM channels _only_ - the only chance you have is: Set your speakers to 2.0, turn on AC3, enable Dolby Transcoding and disable all of the rest. AC3 / DTS are virtual formats that are sent via 2 channel PCM link ...

Edit: From the log everything is fine. Kodi is sending AC3 with 2 channels 16 bit. If your TV does not forward it, then sadly nothing we can do for you.
