Kodibox for kodi and web video streaming?
#1
I am looking to buy my brother a kodibox, similar device, or maybe even just build an htpc. But one of the things he wants aside from Kodi, is the ability to browse and stream videos from the web.  Being extremely unfamiliar with Kodiboxes, is this something most can do already?  If not, I would appreciate any recommendations on devices that would be suitable for this.  It wont be used for much else, so not looking for anything excessive in ability and power.

Thanks!

Hello jukappa

Let's clear up some confusion. There is no kodibox. There is hardware that runs kodi, same as any other software. If you are seeing advertisements for kodibox, then they are not from Kodi and are most likely full of items that are banned from this forum, which will make you ineligible for support here in future.

Here is a list of hardware that you can install Kodi on. It is well maintained and updated regularly. You should find something suitable to fulfill your requirements... https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916

The link you provided calls them "kodibox" so I assumed that was the name, improper or not, for devices that are pre installed with Kodi.  Regardless of semantics on naming, I already checked that link before posting this.

While it is full of useful info, it didn't clearly address my issue of web browsing and web streaming videos.  So to be more clear, I am just trying to verify that any of these kodi capable devices (that have an OS pre-installed) allows web browsing and web streaming.

It could just be a dumb question, but unfortunately I do not have much experience with OS's outside of Windows/iOS, so I am oblivious to their browsing capabilities.

Android O/S will allow you to browse the internet and stream video via the Web Browser app. Pretty much any Android device will let you do this to some extent, even my old Android 4.2 mobile phone Smile

It depends what you want though, the quality might not be great & almost certainly not as good as you'd get through Kodi. Most sites do have specialist apps though which you could use i.e. Youtube, ITV, BBC etc.
