Black screen on wake from sleep
#1
Using Kodi 17.6 under Windows 7 Pro.

Every time I wake my HTPC from sleep I'm presented with a black screen.  Hitting arrow keys I can here it cycle through menus so I know it's functional just no display.  I use to be plagued with this in WMC also when I used that.  Today I got a bit frustrated and wanted to solve this as it seems I've stumbled upon this being a common issue waking to a black screen.  I noticed if I hit the Windows key on keyboard video then wakes up and Kodi gets minimized to the task bar.  OK I can live with that and clicking Kodi on the task bar to bring it back to full screen but I decided to try to wake the HTPC by using the windows key..bam..worked and screen was alive and Kodi still full screen.  Why on earth is this some kind of magic key?  I assume this is some kind of HDMI handshake issue or EDID thingy but the cure being the windows key I'm stumped by.

I'm having this issue too, did you find any way of fixing it.

I don't think this is an HDCP or handshake issue, although one might say it's an indirect result of it. This neat 'Sleep' function that MS brought to computers has been the bane of a lot of users (and in this thread 3 users). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...sleep-mode. What is happening is that the O/S on sleep command puts away the code in queue along with support code in a special area in the line-up. Unfortunately, graphic engines and instructions for redrawing the screen by the graphic chips are a sidelight (too many different designs) and this is where the issue lies, on wake the code comes back to handling the stack (queued commands) well , but often the graphics don't get the same placement instructions, so you end up with black screens or incomplete re-draws, while hitting the 'magic windows button' forces a screen refresh in most cases to show the bottom bar. If the graphic engine was tasked to real code, the house of cards collapses. The order in which sleep mode is queued is important and should there be 'other' tasks in mid flight with graphic associated memory that are also put to sleep at the same time, you get these common complaints.

Noticing https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=271401 and the trac https://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16638I suspect this thread  is more of a HDCP or handshake issue on wake, but the issue maybe associated.

i found a solution for my project... i just dont use any extern applications liek ps4 remote, xbox remote or netflix...
i have my stuff next to the htpc anyways so its no point of having these inside of kodi...

these are the only applicatons wich dont go back to kodi (fullscreen)

Launcher4Kodi has some workarounds for this doesn't it?  Personally, I got so sick of waking from sleep issues I just used a reg hack to make the machine turn off when the MCE Remote sleep command is sent.  This solution isn't for everybody of course but if it's a dedicated Kodi box, it's the best solution.

Jup....same issue here Sad As long as the PC is on for a while before switching on the TV it seems to go well. And if things go south I have to switch off the TV, keep my HTPC from falling asleep (through Teamviewer or something like that), leave the TV off for minutes (switching it off and on again within a minute doesn't trigger all processes to get to know each other again) and then try it again.

This really sucks for the WAF Sad

This issue started after Jarvis as seen here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=271401

Seems to be most common with AMD GPUs. Someone posted logs that show Kodi causing some directX errors when going to sleep. Although a ticket was marked "fixed" this issue still continues for lots of people.

You can either use the kodi4launcher work around to exit / launch Kodi automatically, or you can install an older build prior to this issue appearing.
(Or maybe devs can fix it in the future!)

Well I never purchase AMD, always Intel. I don't want to shut down Kodi when I'm away and I don't want to install an older version. Sorry I'm bugging you.

For me the only real solution is to not ever put the Kodi machine to sleep. Just have it use 90-100 Watt 24/7. Not a real solution, but it works...
