A probable hiccup from the xml the rtmp:// stream is a rtmpe:// stream as in encrypted So unless there is some way to decrypt the stream or another way to access it XBMC can't play it. Correct me if I'm wrong (which I would like to be)

i have had some success just replacing the rtmpe with rtmp and have the video stream correctly. i did this for the mtvn streaming. i don't know if it will work here though.

Looks like the utility rtmpdump (based on XBMC code) now supports rtmpe and is capable of downloading channel 4 content. See http://linuxcentre.net/download-and-watc...t_iplayer/

We have resolved a dispute with Adobe Systems Incorporated, without admitting any wrongdoing or liability, by agreeing not to circumvent any Secure RTMP Measures developed by Adobe.

I assume Adobe Secure RTMP Measures includes the RTMPE protocol. While Replay Media Catcher was explicitly for copying files, where as XBMC is a player, I don't know how Adobe would feel about it. RTMP specs are alledgedly being released first half 2009, so we'll see what they want to make public then.

Hi Guys,

Perhaps I'm a little cheeky asking this, but my python skills are very basic indeed and this would be well out of my league.
Now that the BBC iPlayer plugin is so perfect and the TVCatchup plugin is working well, surely the next logical project is the new Channel 4 4oD Catchup website. Particularly now they've announced they will be putting a huge amount of back catalogue on there in the near future.

From what I can see, they've abandoned the windows media DRM model they've been using for the last few years and now have flash streams on their website a la iPlayer.

Does anybody fancy giving this a go?

I believe it uses some form of DRM so cannot be done or cannot be done legally. If you search you'll find it mentioned in previous topics.

I've read the previous topics, however the DRM is only an issue on the 4oD software version - the newer Catchup service is completly flash based and doesn't appear to have DRM.

hello. I had a go but I'm not sure it can be done? the stream uses rtmpe instead of rtmp, which I am not sure xbmc can handle yet.

anyways. rather than sit around I put together a rough plugin which does a lot of the scraping and uses the api to retrieve the rtmpe link

its just xbmc won't use it. According to the clean room spec for rtmpe we need to be passing some hash/token info to the server but I don't know how we get xbmc to do that?? - interestingly it looks like the api gives us some form of token in its reply so that maybe what we need?

4od would quite possibly be the best plugin out of itv and bbc, i think ch4 has some cracking programs
