I tried to use the NFS server application and every time I try it says that it cannot do it with exfat. Is there a way to get around that?

Use HFS instead of exFAT

 I created quick tutorial

I followed your tutorial and I got the NFS server running. My xbox kodi app won't connect to it though, I get the error message: "The connection to the network couldn't be established.". What's the best way to figure out what IP address I should use to connect with? I tried the public IP address of my computer already. Thanks!

Use the LAN IP.

For info: Anyone with a mac or linux based OS will find SSH connections a very usable and stable affair. As nick says you need to use your local lan IP not your external (Router) IP as more than likely you system will be configured to deny access via external IP.

For Windows SSH is also better than NFS in any aspect.
https://winscp.net/eng/docs/guide_window...ssh_server

It's official OpenSSH developed by Microsoft.
At the beginning it require quick installation, but then works like native OS function.
