So the docs say 'Keep all clients at the same version' (you can feel the death stare that goes with it), but is that truly a requirement or just that you keep them within a tolerance whereby they all use the same Video/Music database version?

There are generally only database changes when jumping major releases, so in practice you are probably OK if you keep the same major version number (i.e. everything on 17.x). But to be safe you really should keep all Kodi devices in the same version.

It's about the same database version really. Usually, database versions remain the same for all sub versions so you can mix Kodi 17.6 with 17.4, but not 16.1.
I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
