Using KODI JSON-RPC with Home Remote (thehomeremote.com)
#1
I'm trying to build a KODI remote for my Android phone using the Windows designer + Android app from thehomeremote.com, but am not having any success yet. Has anyone here built a Kodi remote using the Home Remote system? If so, would you consider sharing your HRP file with me, please?

For anyone who might be interested, the entire Home Remote system is free, both Windows Designer and Android, iOS and Windows Phone apps. You start by installing the Windows Designer application from here and the phone/tablet app from the Android Play Store, Apple App Store or Windows Store

Once the Windows Designer application is installed and running, you create an HTTP device. Here's a screenshot of the parameters of creating an http device.

Next you create commands for that http device. Here's a screenshot of me creating a command for the JSON input.up command.

Finally, you place controls (text buttons, image buttons, etc.,) on a canvas and link them to one of the commands you create. If you've done everything right, then (a) when you run the simulator in the Windows Designer, or (b) when you upload the xaml file you created (named *.HRP) to your phone/tablet and press the button, it's supposed to execute the command.

I've successfully built a Home Remote that controls everything else (tv, Roku, etc.) in my home AV system. The only missing piece is to control Kodi. Unfortunately, either I've done something wrong creating the http device and/or something wrong creating the device commands, because when I try to execute any of them I get the error: object reference not set to an instance of an object.

If I can figure out how to make this work with one command, then I can probably figure out how to make it work with every command.

I got it working. If anyone wants to try HomeRemote, I'll be happy to share my creation. Just post here and/or message me.

I wrote a Beginner's Guide to creating a KODI remote using the Home Remote system. You can read it here. It isn't 2% as cool as KORE or Yatse, but it works and allows the control of KODI to be part of an entire home automation system.

YMMV
