Upgrade HTPC for 4K HDR
#1
Hi everyone,
I currently have all MKVs and Kodi on a win10 machine featuring an i5 4770S.
Since I bought an LG OLED I want to use more and more UHD material which is currently only playable via LGs media player.
Unfortunately, this way I loose Atmos capability as well as the ability to play UHD iso files.

I would be ready to switch to a NAS / media device setup, since I don't play games using emulators much anymore.
I hope you guys can help me figure out which players are capable of proper playback of

MKV and ISO files (no 3D)
HDR10 (and maybe Dolby Vision)
8 & 10 bit colorspaces
Dolby Atmos

Thanks! Smile

Windows, Kodi DS, madVR and nvidia 10xx (or maybe one of the newer ones in the 9xx series, such as 960).

If MS were to fix the native HDR API in the future, you might only need a 7th gen cpu and up. But if you want to keep using your existing setup, then the gt1030 would be the cheapest option. If you want Netflix 4K, then you need a gtx1050ti with minimum 3GB of vram (which means the 4GB option) and use Edge or the Netflix app.
