I have enabled the "login screen" on my Raspberry PI, because of problems logging out. The "first" time I log in into a profile (doesn't matter which), strings in the GUI are missing. As soon as I log out (if Kodi lets me) and log in again, or if I switch the language from, say, English, to English US, the strings are back.

You are running old and outdated version, try updating your system first.

Your OS is outdated too and is no longer supported. Upgrade to raspbian 9 (stretch) first.

Please point me to a posting that says there is a Kodi 17.6 and a Raspbian 9 available for the RetroPie distribution. The ones I found says, it is not supported:

Your log file says you are running raspbian.
Ask retropie developers, AFAIK this bug was fixed long ago,

The newest RetroPie Version seems to be 4.3, released in September 2017 (https://retropie.org.uk/download/). The posting from rascas says, that the current versions back then (November) still were Kodi 17.4 and Raspbian 8.

Please point me to a posting that shows a RetroPie version newer than 4.3 / September 2017 and that shows, that there is a Kodi 17.6 available for RetroPie.

RetroPie is based on Raspbian, that's why the log file says I'm running Raspbian.
