Had a problem and solved it. I thought I'd share my experience in case someone else has the same problem.
After I exited Kodi it would not restart (black screen). Clearing the cache in FireTV Settings, and Force Stopping Kodi would allow it to restart. Also, sometimes the movie thumbnails for the default profile screen would not show.
Pain in the butt.
In the FireTV Manage Applications section of Settings I moved Kodi to an external storage (sd-card) and this solved the problem. Apparently I was bumping up against a storage limitation on the internal storage SD card in FireTV.
