Stuttering 1080p LiveTV and Recordings in Kodi 18, but not Kodi 17

Thanks to @janbar , the addon has been updated and 1080p LiveTV is working well again.  Tested and working in Milhouse build #0225.

Confirmed working here as well with Kodi v18 (LE 9.0 Amlogic S905 community build) and pvr.mythtv 5.7. Thanks!

Is there any way of running/testing this updated mythtv pvr client on Kodi 17?  I've been looking at a similar, intermittent DVB-T2 LiveTV 1080 stuttering problem on OSMC 2018.03-1 with client 4.15.3, against mythtv-backend-0.28.1-5.el7.x86_64; not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but debug log suggests buffer underruns:

11:10:42.847 T:841827072   DEBUG: Stream stalled, start buffering. Audio: 3 - Video: 0
...
11:10:46.170 T:841827072   DEBUG: Stream stalled, start buffering. Audio: 0 - Video: 0
...
11:10:49.451 T:841827072   DEBUG: Stream stalled, start buffering. Audio: 3 - Video: 0
...
11:10:52.746 T:841827072   DEBUG: Stream stalled, start buffering. Audio: 0 - Video: 0

If I skip back 10 seconds on the same stream, the stuttering stops.  Plenty of bandwidth and ~20ms latency between OSMC and the MythTV backend box. Can provide full log if it'll help anyone.

Thanks,

James

Hi,

I don’t mean to digress. I have the same issue on NextPVR. My setup is with tuners inside the HTPC so no network. What is see is this jitter effect when 1920x1080 meg2. If the FPS is viewed from Carl-shift-d or ctrl-shift-o I notice the jitter when FPS drops to about 30. It is smooth when at 60. I can make smooth temporarily by changing the add on setting for video scaling from one item to another. Say from DXVA to Auto or vice versa.

I also see debug mode grabbing at 4096 per read but I don’t see that change when I smooth it out by the above method.

Hi,

Also I see in debug log cptstracker showing losses. You can see this with ctrl-shift-o as drops.

Logged in to add my voice to this. I'm experiencing similar "stuttering" playing back myth recordings on Ubuntu based clients served by a Ubuntu server, MythTv 0.29  backend. The PVR files are TS format.

Sadly, the stuttering motion is so bad recordings are impossible to watch & focus on in Kodi. Have fallen back the myth frontend.

Other videos (mp4, mkv, dvds, bluerays etc) play fine in Kodi.

From the comments of others here it does seem to be some sort of buffering issue; playback will occasionally even stop very briefly and then restart.

Thanks

FYI after a Ubuntu 18.04 LTS dist-upgrade on the server and clients the stuttering has disappeared. Kodi and kodi-pvr-mythtv were NOT updated.

There were a bunch of mesa updates, through a normal update not dist-upgrade.  I wounder if those had some effect.
