General question on AAC Stereo not working on DVB-T
#1
Hi, I'm using Kodi 18 nightly.
PVR backend is dvblink. Front end is an Nvidia shield TV.
If I navigate to a channel using latest SPMC Test build the details of the channel show as; " 2.0 AAC 1.85:1 H.264" and things work as expected.
If I navigate to that same channel using Kodi 18 nightly, I get no audio.
Channels identified as "5.1 DOLBY H.264" work as expected.
According to Oberon from dvblogic, dvblink just passes through the stream as is, so he believes the issue is with Kodi. So I'm guessing this is to do with the audio detection of a real time stream.
As a consumer of Kodi and DVBLink, I'm just stuck in the middle and looking for advice.
Note this issue only impacts LiveTV and not recorded TV from my initial tests.
Any thoughts?

Title changed as this is not just Shield TV, it's android phone and other android devices and RPI3. Please can someone take a look at this.

To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log.

The instructions are here... debug log (wiki)

If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied...
1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging,
2.Restart Kodi
3.Replicate the problem.

If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file.

In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log.

Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs
Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Always use a paste site like pastebin.com. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum

Hi, thanks for that.
I have generated two log file - the first with no audio the second with audio as a comparison.
I generated these on a Nexus 5x as Kodi nightly has the same isseu as on the shield TV.

anybody here? Maybe @Koying  has seen this issue or would have some idea? Or can someone just take a look at the log files to see how things look.
I have looked at dvblogic's latest client "TVMosaic" but it doesn't cut the mustard in our family household.

as @vic911 points out the issue is not confined to Android or to the shield TV - please can someone take a look at this...

Are you getting any audio (maybe SD channels)? I'm having audio issues with a new tuner card I've just bought. Have tried using Next-PVR and Media Portal clients and get no audio for HD channel playback, although SD channels are fine.

yeah I get audio for HD channels no problem - your issue sounds more like codec related issues and to debug that you'd need to provide the full logs and identify the stream format in your thread.

Hi, thanks a lot for that. I have just installed the latest nightly and there is still no sound; kodi-20180325-03d453ae-master-arm64-v8a.apk
I'm happy to provide a short recording but there is nothing much to see other than a moving picture with no sound!
The 5.1 sound channels are all fine as they were before.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Just for testing, I took the latest nightly (kodi-20180328-ad9770fc-master-arm64-v8a.apk) and saw the saem issue still (no audio on certain channels).
I then opened up livetv in PlexDVR on the same channel and the channel audio worked perfectly in Plex.
Plex reports the channel as;
Quality: Original (576p)
Audio Stream: English - AAC_LATM Stereo
Subtitles: None.

Is there specifically an issue with AAC_LATM detection in Kodi for Stereo sources? (The Nvidia shield can direct play this so is not a transcoding issue, but rather a kodi player issue from what I can see).

I meant a recording of a tv channel with an aac audio stream.

Thanks.

Here is a link to a file.
The file was generated by gong into live TV and then hitting the record button.
When I go back into the recordings and playback this specific recording the audio works as expected.
So the issue is specifically with Live TV not detecting the audio stream on these type of channels. (In the NZ Freeview Bouquet, about half the channels are 576p stereo AAC_LATM)
