XBOX Issue with playback H.265
#1
Team,
I'm testing the beta 18 on XboX One and the video stutters and skips.
The same files work perfectly on my pc with GOM player or VLC.
They have been encoded with handbrake and not an excessive profile.

Is quite critical.

Note that the same file on my HTPC with Kodi 17.4 present slowdun, frame skip, stuttering issues while on the same machine GOM play it back fine (not perfect but fine).

Now on the htpc the processor is quite small even if there is intel hw accelerated video card, on Xbox One X there could be no issues on processor power and video card power at all

Looks to me there are some issues with the H265 playback.

Both connected with Gb ethernet directly to NAS (xbox via ftp, htpc via smb)

Other than it's H.265 files you have not given any of the necessary details, are the files FHD or UHD? are they 8 bit or 10 bit? This is important to know as there's no hardware decode of H.265 UHD 10 bit files.

Ok so that one is 8 bit FHD in which case the Xbox should have no problems with it from what I understand, so that means a debug log_file (wiki) will be required to see what’s going on.

XBOX ONE classic has no hw decoder for hevc. only S and X version have it.

Getting some mixed signals here. Buggy playback of all x265 on classic xbox one should be expected (for now)?

What is current build? I don't have access to XONE right now.
I'm 100% sure HEVC was working on OG Xbox with 25-02-2018 build.
Same file on previous build (not a test version, from middle January) was laggy, so there was some improvement (maybe not intentionally).

MS provides support for 10bit HEVC on OG.

afedchin is the Windows video playback expert so is the single source of absolute truth, the rest of us do the best we can with our more limited knowledge to help out.

If so then going by what afedchin has said it would have been software decode only.

At the end it doesn't matter if it software or hardware decode if it works.
I only observed that 20180225 could easily decode some HEVC movie (10bit,  3273 kb/s) with 10-20% CPU usage.

With previous build it was laggy. That build didn't have CPU meter, so i don't know what was usage.

Did a more thorough test now and there is indeed an improvement in the 25. feb. build. Several files which previously played with lags and sync problems seem to play fine now, at least for as long as I let them play. Cpu load between 15-30%. 2500 kb/s main 10 hevc played fine while testing for a few minutes as well. Happy days. A couple of the ones tested were still laggy tho, not sure why that would be.
