I found how to change which keys are sent by my remote. But that breaks the remote for other program like my BluRay player. So instead of remapping the remote, I want to remap how Kodi responds to keystrokes. Do the keymaps do that? Or is that how the remote is remapped?

OK. Thanks. The wording in the second link seemed unclear as to what was mapped. I saw the addon, but it wasn't giving me a chance to enter the desired keys. Plus, the keystrokes that appeared were just numbers rather than what I typed. Both left me confused.

The keymap editor allows you to do it in the GUI. You press the key and choose an action. If you want to do it by hand, the wiki page give a list of all the available functions.
What remote are you using?
