which remote is recommended for XBMC Win?

Hi,

I need a remote for the XBMC. I use XBMC for XBox since it is available. Any way to use the XBOX I remote? I also have the MCE Remote.

The XBOX remote will work fine. I don't know about the MCE remote. Personally I use a Logitech Harmony universal remote.

I just use a wireless keyboard, works great when you figure out the controls.

I don't know what's best, but I found these at my local flea market ($60) this weekend and they worked out of the box. Not all of the remote keys did what I wanted but the keyboard commands filled in where needed. Then I used the keyboard and remote to program my Harmony 680. Works well.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, running on XP Pro SP3. Just did a fresh install today. These may not wok with XP Home according to some posts I've read.

I currently use the Harmony 550 with Even Ghost. That combination works great, but there's still a few things that I have to reach for the keyboard.

Yesterday I just had the opprtunity to play with the Logitech DiNovo Mini, and THIS IS IT. I'll be buying one this week. Check it out.Nod

Between my Harmony remote and this, I can do just about anything I want to do with the computer, XBMC, browse the web, etc. It's a little pricey, but it's just awesome.Big Grin

If you need a keyboard, I'd just go with a nice mini-keyboard. If I was *rarely* going to be typing, this might be nice. I'm not a big fan of typing on my cell phone to begin with, but it works in a pinch. And considering what you'd need a keyboard for, I'd rather have something full featured. I just picked up this guy from Buy.com last week and it works great, for about 1/3rd the cost. If they were similar in cost, then it would be different. But to pay that much, just to not eat up as much space, which is kind of a moot point anyways since it's generally going to be stored somewhere, and to be annoyed with that small of a keyboard...I'd just as soon get a regular keyboard. The keyboard I linked to above has a pretty small footprint, and it's been such an annoyance saver while setting up my HTPC.

Only thing that works with my MCEv2 (http://www.byremote.com.au/Hip/MCEv2.gif) are the directional buttons (emulated keystrokes) + volume controls. Thats with xmbc_12882 installer version. I see remote stuff is still in the to-do list so no surprise it doesn't work yet.

thx so far!! I prefer a real remote and I definitely don't need a Harmony. I just want XBOX I feeling with full HDTV Support. So if the remote support is still on the to-do-list I'll wait until it's done.

It's easy enough to use your xbox dvd kit. Just need the driver package and some solder experience or $10 for an adapter on ebay.
