Time for new hardware

Currently been running a N3150-ITX at the mo, but it's not cutting it with X265 \ 4k So I'm planning an upgrade

I'd rather not have an android box if I can help it as I like compiling my own builds on Linux, is Linux still an option ?

There are the latest Intel chipsets are J4105 and J5005, those should be okay although HDR support is still a a dark corner AFAIK.

Thanks, I was looking at those - hard to find at the moment

Do they definitely do x265 at 2160p though ?

4K HEVC & HDR devices

Q. What about devices for up to 4K HEVC (H265) video playback over HDMI 2.0 to my non HDR capable 4K TV ?
  • Apple TV 4K
  • All AMLogic S9xx devices including WeTek's, MINIX U1, ODROID C2 + others
  • MINIX U9
  • Vero 4K (OSMC)
  • Xiaomi Mi Box
  • NVIDIA Shield
  • Amazon FireTV2 (limited to 4K@30Hz)
  • HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro
  • Zidoo X9S
  • Intel / AMD x86-64 computer with a GeForce GTX 960 or later Nvidia graphics card, preferably
GeForce GT 1030 or better. (Windows 7/10 only)
  • Intel x86-64 computer with Apollo Lake or Kaby Lake CPU or later (users still need to check for Displayport > HDMI 2.0 adapter issues)

Thanks, just wasn't sure if the new Asrocks were capable

Is it worth getting the J4015 over the j5005 as they appear to be more readily available ? (Bit cheaper too)

AMD 2200g might be good option.

There is no decent driver support yet for the Ryzen GPUs, for Linux environments anyway.
For Windows, there seem to be glitches as well. Ryzen is still pretty new hardware as are the drivers.
