With the latest build (0.5.0b3) alias support was added but "smart" folders still don't work. IE they can't be seen in OSXBMC.
Smart folders provide an alias (of sorts) to all files of a user defined type. Every time you add a file that meet your criteria type it's automatically added in to the "smart" folder. Way easy to manage files, esp over regular aliases. Driven off of Spotlight.
