I'm currently integrating favourites into my skin, but have found out the hard way that favourites are one of Kodi's less flexible components. Seems it's one of those things where the simpler you want it for the user, the harder it is to achieve.

My favourites system needs to:

- allow users to keep separate favourites for Movies, TV and Music
- display those as a custom list/smart playlist with fanart support, or at the very least access to the path for each item, on the Home screen
- do all this out-of-the-box, as part of regular browsing, without the user having to manage tags, etc.

Nope.

The favourite system is still very.. let' say.. rudimentary. No listitem info support etc.

Smart playlists are only possible if you use the tags for videos. That's how Emby For Kodi does it.

I hope that we see it reworked someday.
