Kodi not starting - Segmentation fault (core dumped)
#1
I installed Kodi long time ago in my Raspberry Pi 3 and it has been working without any issue for many months, but suddenly it has stopped working, and every time I try to run it it´s returning this error:

Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Crash report available at /root/kodi_crashlog-20180509_212951.log

I have tried updating raspbian, renaming folder ~/.kodi, reinstalling kodi, removing the CEC peripherial from /usr/share/kodi/system/peripherals.xml, but nothing works and I am still getting the same error.

This is the full log from /root/kodi_crashlog-20180509_212951.log: https://pastebin.com/3EskvAL0

I have also activated debug logging with all verbose components to see if the log would give me more information but I cannot see any error in it, this is the log: https://pastebin.com/sYrzxUgE

To ensure nothing connected to the raspberry was causing the issue I rebooted the raspberry disconnecting everything except the hdmi and the power, and the same error happened, so I assume it must be a software problem, but everything else in the raspberry is running fine.

Any help to find the issue will be welcome.

Thanks.

21:29:43.221 T:1945621152 NOTICE: Starting Kodi (17.4 Git:20170913-5cc491e-dirty).

I'm sure there is a more recent version available somewhere, with Kodi 17.6.
Other than that, running something on a RPi on an SD card may crash sooner or later. SD cards do not live forever. Perhaps a total fresh install will help.
There is also the option to install LibreELEC, should you only need Kodi to run on your Raspberry Pi device.

Hi

I encounter the same problem of segmentation fault (core dumped) on my OlinuXino Lime2 -Armv7 (https://www.olimex.com/wiki/A20-OLinuXino-LIME2) running Debian jessie. I've installed it with the command sudo apt-get install kodi.
The installation is fine. But when launching it crashes showing the message "segmentation fault (core dumped)"
Here is the crash log: https://pastebin.com/S7JacG6v
Uninstall/reinstall leads to same issue.
Any idea how to fix this?

Best regards,

Hi again,
I've tried with LibreELEC but it did not work. It was predictable since they don't have official image for my specific board.
Maybe a manual build should work? Any tip about the compiling process?
Thanks in advance.

You'll probably find more relevant and timely support in the Linux subforum since your issue has nothing to do with raspberry pi and you are essentially thread jacking here. Good luck

I think you are right, about a year ago the sd card crashed and I had to restore a backup done before the sd died in a different sd card (the one that is in the raspberry pi now), maybe in that backup some file was already corrupted. Unfortunately this raspberry pi is running many other things that are working properly (as a temperature and humidity log, samba and http servers, smart home app, etc...) and it would take me weeks to setup everything again, so I am afraid I will have to live without kodi for the moment (unless someone has an idea to help me continue investigating the problem).

Anyway thanks for your help.
