Automatically refresh/update photos used for slideshow
#1
Is there any way to have Kodi automatically refresh/update what photos it will use for a slideshow without having to manually exit out of the slideshow and then restart it via the Kodi menu?

I'm running LibreELEC/Kodi on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B with an external USB disk connected. I have this USB disk shared on my network meaning I'm able to drop new photos directly onto it from my Windows 10 computer. However, whenever I do that I have to manually perform the step described above to have Kodi include the newly added photos in the slideshow.

Would be very nice if there was a way to automate this.

Can't imagine I'm the only one wishing this would be possible. Without by any means being a coder or developer myself I can't imagine it would be that hard to implement a simple option in the Kodi GUI such as 'Poll for new pictures every x minutes' that would take care of this.

I did find some scripts floating around where people tried to come up with a solution themselves with various results it seemed. I might try one of those myself if I can wrap my head around where to put the script and how to have it automatically executed.

My true goal would be to have the slideshow start automatically whenever I restart my RPi as well as have the pictures used for the slideshow automatically refreshed every x minutes. Or ultimately, triggered when pictures have been added/removed/changed in one of the sub-folders where I keep my pictures.

Well, I came here to confirm the problem. Looks like its there. I use samba server on debian from which I provide photos (hundreds of thousands) to kodi box on chromebox with libreelec (i7, 8gb ram). The problem is that kodi seems to pickup some random pool of photos to display and it will display the pool randomly up until I break the connection with smb server to it needs to make another pool. It does not matter if kodi is restarted or not. It will keep the same pool up until I do not force new connection to samba shares.

I was looking into advancedsettings wiki for any setting about that, but the ony one I found is statfile to be disabled. I might be all wrong in in my logic, if anyone has a hint or advice I will gladly welcome.

Is there not an option to update library when you start Kodi? I think I saw one.
