Music ratings

Trying to figure out how to import the ratings tags for my music library. Over the years I have rated all my wma, mp3, flac, etc music files using the windows rating of 1 to 5.
I see that there is a rating system in kodi but is there a way to use my already existing ratings? With a library exceeding 8000 tunes I really do not want to start over. I like using kodi for TV and movies, sure would be nice for one stop usage for music too.

I have searched considerably, and I find post discussing ratings, but no luck on how to import them.

Thanks for any help

If you are tagging your files correctly you should be able to see ratings. Here's another thread discussing the issue as well.

Which version of Kodi are you using?

I did read that. And although it seems to focus on importing from iTunes it does seem to suggest it should just work. But it doesn't seem to for me. I deleted all my music from kodi and imported again and still no ratings.

I am using 17.6 on Android 7.0.

Perhaps you read that forum post different from me. Because it states that iTunes keeps it's rating in a separate database (not in the actual ID tags for the files). There are ways in that forum post to edit the SQL library, and force the iTunes library to create a Ratings number in the Comment field of songs that support this (MP3 does, but not sure about WMA, flac, etc). Then you would force Krypton v17 (Kodi), to import those numbers in the Comment to the rating field in Kodi.

In Windows it's similar, but the Ratings are stored in an altogether different way. But according to this post, there is a way to get them copied to your actual music...

Not an easy task to say the least, but at least you have something to go on.

Yes, the thread I linked to involves ALAC files.  However, the thread points out that Kodi is capable of reading Ratings metadata directly from many file types, including MP3 and FLAC.  Are you sure your ratings are embedded in your files?  Try a program like MP3tag to investigate.

If you do retag your files you should also recan your library (not delete and reinstall).

Thanks for the tips. I have used windows media player to apply these tags, and I am able to see the ratings in explorer in the ratings field.
I just checked some random files to make sure they are all marked and they are. But when I look using mp3 tag there is no rating field.

Maybe this just isn't going to work out

Just for info, there is also an Add-on which uploads your ratings to the 'cloud' on www.TheAudioDB.com

I find this very useful for syncing between Kodi installs without worrying about rating music locally or even storing in files.

Best thing about it is if you upload your ratings, it effects the overall rating of a track on the site and helps others find good songs Smile

Kistner, what skin are you using?  I ask because not all skins show music ratings under all stages of Kodi.

For example, I use AeonMQ7 and it will not show track ratings under particular album views, but it does show ratings when playing the same track in Fullscreen.

[Edit]  I see from above you are trying this on your phone?  I have no idea if android phones can show ratings.  Try loading it on a computer (Windows or LibreElec).

I can see the ratings field, unfortunately the field is blank.

I am contemplating some sort of work around where I export the tunes rated 5 from windows media player and then import those to kodi and rate them all - hopefully as a group.  Then I can export the 4's, and so on.

Now that this has become 'hard' my interest is waning.  Until I build that cool in car raspberry pi computer thing I have had in mind.  Ha!

If your handy with Python its also possible to export and import to Kodi pretty easily. I wrote a little python script to read last.fm plays and import them to the Kodi Sqlite database directly Wink
