XBMC Ubuntu PPAs (precompiled PPA builds for Ubuntu)
kees667 Wrote:At least it works :-) Wanted to post here in case someone else could use it.

Now running 22528 but an ISO file doesn't work. I need r23534. I am a little confused with all the versions. I saw this guide here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=54350 which uses

Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

will that get me a recent build like 23534 ?

Yes this will give you the last svn, and the release number could change every day. Currently it is svn23588.

I just tried, but I get:

xbmc-standalone: Depends: xbmc-common (= 9.04.3+svn23422-jaunty1) but 9.04.3+svn22528-jaunty2 is installed

I know I have 22528, but it looks like it wants to install 23422 (which I just downgraded from. What am I doing wrong? I know I can use -f to force this, but I don't want 23422 I want 23588 (or later)

I used these two:
#deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
#deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

My full sources.list looks like this:
Code:
# XBMC Repositories
# SVN builds are commented out. Remove comment '#' to enable.
# Please DO NOT use the SVN builds during first time installation
#deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
#deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xbmc-addons/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Have you tried removing everything that has anything to do with XBMC?

After removing the old packages you should update and install.

I followed the instructions to get 22528 back, every thing worked fine but a couple of packages where missing compared to the post at the beginning.

I went and took a look at my logs for my MintUpdate Manager and saw that everything was fine until the late evening of Oct 9th. Was on 23539 and every thing was fine. It was the packages I upgraded to on the morning of Oct 10 and later on in the day when I got up to SVN 23588. Major symptom was with VDPAU enabled, and as soon as a video that used VDPAU the whole XBMC crashed every time. I looked at the XBMC crash logs while I had debug enabled and it it would crash with ffmpeg or something like that, I'll have to look later.

I got SVN 23539 back without removing anything just use the "sudo dpkg -i --force-all Package names1 names2 etc", it does it all. Note that I did exit XBMC and use SSH to wget the packages and the sudo dpkg command.

Below is what work for me. As soon as the "sudo dpkg" finished, XBMC started right away. I rebooted from XBMC just to make sure everything went fine. The HTPC booted up right into XBMC. I need an easier way to boot back into my MintLinux to do maintenance work on shared hard drives and stuff, anyone got any suggestions for the grub menu for a Gnome session option?

I believe he wants the latest version:

Code:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc* xbmc-common* xbmc-skin* xbmc-web* xbmc-eventclients-*
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-common xbmc-eventclients xbmc-skin* xbmc-web*

You should obviously not just copy this, instead use tab and complete the lines yourself eg:

You type:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc, then you press tab so ubuntu can autocomplete the complete name eg: xbmc-common_9.04.3+svn23539-jaunty1_i386 or something like that.

Hopefully you will understand what i mean, tab is were useful.Cool

svn23626 from today must have some problem, my db is gone with it so i switched back to the last one.

Code:
wget https://edge.launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive/ppa/+files/xbmc_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb
wget https://edge.launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive/ppa/+files/xbmc-common_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb

wget https://edge.launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive/ppa/+files/xbmc-skin-pm3-hd_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb

dpkg -i xbmc_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb xbmc-common_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb xbmc-skin-pm3-hd_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb xbmc-web-pm3_9.04.3+svn23588-jaunty1_i386.deb

I did it inside "/var/cache/apt/archives" to have it @ the correct place.

I had the same problem and managed to rollback to 23588 from the copy in var/cache/apt/archives.

Handy trick that one!

I've also have problem with svn23626 - but after rollback to svn23588 after playing a whole avi file (fe tvshow episode) I get a black screen and my xbmc freeze. If i just before end of file hit 'display' I get an ordinary menu and everything is working.

Many thanks MrDVD for the commands to replace the version. After I updated XBMC today it was acting quite strange. With your instructions I was able to replace it with a more stable SVN version. Cheers!

Thanks,

If I type "sudo apt-get remove xbmc<tab>"

I get
Code:
xbmc                         xbmc-skin-ceomr
xbmc-common                  xbmc-skin-clearity
xbmc-eventclients-common     xbmc-skin-containment
xbmc-eventclients-dev        xbmc-skin-mc360
xbmc-eventclients-j2me       xbmc-skin-mediastream
xbmc-eventclients-ps3        xbmc-skin-mint
xbmc-eventclients-wiiremote  xbmc-skin-pdm
xbmc-live                    xbmc-skin-pm3
xbmc-scripts-example         xbmc-skin-pm3-hd
xbmc-scripts-supported       xbmc-skin-vision
xbmc-skin-amped              xbmc-skin-xtv
xbmc-skin-backrow            xbmc-standalone
xbmc-skin-basics101          xbmc-web-pm3
xbmc-skin-basics-vision

I can let it complete "xbmc-comm" to "xbmc-common" but I am not getting any version numbers. I also typed the *, but I thought those were to indicate where to use tab.

When removing the installed files you don't need the version number as there is only one installed. So it's a bit mistakable what spozen wrote.
The tab is helpful for completing the package names just the way you did: typing the beginning (e.g. xbmc) and examining all matching packages via tab. Then you can either use the wildcard '*' for selecting all packages or entering exact package names.
when installing already downloaded packages (residing in /var/cache/apt or anywhere else) you can examine the complete filename with a tab. Helpful in case there is more than one version downloaded. In this case you need the exact version for installing.

Yep, that was my fault sorry. I didn't have time to check the package name myself. Hopefully BaerMan cleared this up enough for you man.
