Cant use aptitude do update to Beta 3 PPA.
It will try to remove a bunch of important packages:

That's odd...

Anybody have any idea why? I always use aptitude, including when updating from beta 1 to beta 2, and this never happened before...

I just upgraded to Maverick Meerkat. There are no repositories available for this distribution. To make the matters worse, when installing from the .DEB here https://edge.launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-sv...ld/1996354

I get this error:

xbmc does not officially support maverick yet, maverick uses newer/latest librarys/binarys. so a separate package has to be compiled by the xbmc ppa-team which includes fixes/changes on dependency problems.

that process takes time, maverick got released on 10.10. give it some more time

Randomly installing a deb would never try to resolve missing deps. Don't treat Linux like it's windows.

For helpful info, please try adding the Lucid ppa and using apt-get install xbmc. Any failures there are significant.

This is like installing Windows 7, and then attempting to install an application *known* to not run on Windows 7, and then wondering why it won't work. It's pretty obvious why it won't work. It doesn't matter what you try, it's as square peg and a round hole.

If you're really, absolutely stuck on Maverick, and can't get back to Lucid, then there are some experimental Maverick builds out there, and I have absolutely zero idea on whether any of them actually work or not. I doubt that they'll be plug and play though.

You can try to download the packages manually from launchpad.net and install it with "dpkg -i".

Still doesn't work and it seems that I couldn't go over the dependencies errors.
I also tried to use the "force" option but it returned with lots of errors since I most likely mistaken how to place it. Please help.

This is the reason this thread exists. It's to report problems with the builds. All this stopped is bug testing for me. My family media center runs the latest SVN that works on my virtual machine.

Excellent. My vanilla maverick install + attempt to put xbmc on it in VMWare was still missing tons after the additional instructions here. It probably works on a dist-upgrade, but not plain vanilla, or I may not have had a repo opened up or something. I have been having problems hitting some of the ubuntu repos for whatever reason. But I figured that since even the latest svn ppa builds aren't listed as Maverick compatible yet that it's not really a ppa issue if they don't work on Maverick. So, I decided to stick with Lucid.

I'm very glad that some people got it working!

I never got vmware to work on any ubuntu dist. I use oracle virtual box PUEL version because it installs easier. I then install xbmc live with ppa and update-manager. Then ssh -X into it. Before I use update-manager -d on the media center I do it on the vbox.

gonna try it today after upgrading my XBMCbuntu server install to maverick, I hope I don't FUBAR it ^^
