 If your AVR negotiates 2 channels via hdmi something is messed up on AVR config. So check that setting, please to save us all a lot of time.

  Well, the readme is outdated, and the tool either does nothing or produces a black screen for more than 5mins, depending on the selection of the two files to be selected. Only cutting the power from the NUC helps 
Okay, it seems the third time I've tried it was a success! DTS-HD and TrueHD are streaming correctly now.

In this case it seems like it was the old Intel DP to HDMI LSPCON firmware issue where the firmware needs updating.

This is 100% possible. But as he said, he had "everything newest" ... :-)
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
