Maybe enable it by default for now as a simple temporary fix? Otherwise I predict quite some topics on the forum and social media, which also takes time to handle and can hurt the stable reputation of Kodi.

Butttt, I'm not a contributor, so I have little right to ask. I'm happy with anything you guys decide on

It is crashing again on Beta1 using the SFTP addon on Windows.
The earlier nightlies up to 20180819-79b83286 work fine. The next build crashes, which is build 20180821-0bc7140f. So between those two builds a commit has been made that causes this crash.
There were commits to the addon itself around that time (https://github.com/notspiff/vfs.sftp/commits/master), so it can be the addon itself that is causing this.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Kodi Beta1 on Windows x64
2. Enable SFTP support (Addons - My Addons - Virtual filesystems)
3. Add an SFTP video source and watch it crash when clicking OK.

can confirm, just enabled the add on in Beta 3 and now it keeps crashing about 10 seconds after i open kodi in windows. All my libraries are in sftp.

I can see an sftp connection initiated but no uname or pwd are submitted to the SSH server and then kodi crashes on my PC.
