I'm experiencing intermittent usage of the hardware acceleration using TV streams from my Tvheadend server. If I tune a HD (h.265) station, sometimes it uses hardware acceleration and sometimes not. If I change station and retune it, or stop and re-play it, sometimes it uses the hw acceleration. I can see that in the information window while playing the channel.

I'm using Kodi 17.3, Tvheadend HTSP Client on a Huawei MediaPad M5 10.8" (hw acceleration enabled), Android 8.0. The Tvheadend server runs in a separate Raspberry Pi with LibreELEC.

Try it. Videoplayer API was changed so that single instance decoder platforms can use it properly. But I forgot if the new possibilities were implemented for your platform.
