4k playback is green unless I go to software rendering.

Playback of a 4k file I have been waiting for is green!  I have been waiting for this file "4k77" for a very long  time!

It's a large 87GB 4k file.  I have three systems on my network and all of them play green unless rendering is set to software.
1.  Nvidia GeForce GTX 460
2.  ATI Radeon HD 4350
3.  4k droid box

If I switch it to software mode it plays with out the green but it is too choppy to watch.   If I play with the GPU it is smooth and you can make out some of the details behind the green but it's so green it is not watchable.

Due to the massive size of this file. 87,921,027 KB there is no way to software render this.  I have also noticed this problem on other larger files.  Maybe only a few times in the past year.  Software mode usually solves it but this file is just too big to handle with software.

I really want to watch this bad!!!
Do I need new hardware?

A 4K video... Got any other details? HDR, 10-bit, h264 or h265?
A debug log (wiki) would be nice too.

If we assume the content is 4K with HDR you can try setting the player's render method to pixel shader instead of auto or dxva. Also, if we assume the video is HEVC the video cards you listed likely do not support hardware decoding

2160 CUSTOM DCPRIP SDR x265
Video: HVC1 3840x2160 23.976fps  (hevc main 10, yuv420p10le, 3840x2160)

What would you guys suggest for a solid 4k play back card?

If you're on Windows and you're not limited by room in your case Nvidia GT 1050 or better is what you'll want. I'm making it work with a GT 1030, but only had room for a low profile single slot.
