When I play a DVD my subtitles are unreadable because the subtitle box shows as all white. Any ideas what to do?
I use Kodi 18, alpha3 on Ubuntu 16.04.5

@StefanK - unfortunately what can be seen are several banned addons (wiki) and repos. Your installation is not eligible for support here whilst those are in place.

The forum moderators have determined that banned addons (wiki) are present on your system. To receive assistance here, these banned items must be removed. If a clean log is not submitted within 3 days, then the relevant post(s) will be removed after this time.

No add-ons, but two old repositories uninstalled. I actually like the "new" "harsh" forum rules :-)
If anything bad remains - please let me know what lines in the debug log I should be looking at.

Both of those are on the banned addon (wiki) list and are on your system. And there's nothing new about the rules, we just do not support piracy nor any device contaminated with such add-ons that violate our piracy policy (wiki).

... have the same issue with burnt-in subs: Kodi 18 beta, Manjaro/KDE latest ... no issue on latest LE Milhouse build though;


and NO, I do NOT use any "banned" Addons ...
however can't resist to notice it took 3 days to comment on "banned" addons in the logs and more than a month to NOT respond to the issue ...

 Let me comment on that rant.

We have several forum mods who watch out for banned crap.
We only have very very few devs that know this stuff who can actually look it this. It also took you a month to say you have the same issues and having more than 1 person with this problem is likely getting more attention.

have the same problem white blocks over subtitles.
Linux Mint tara, using latest 18.0 Kodi build (RC1) - just downloaded.
tried changing languages, fonts - arial.ttf vs teletext.ttf, language English > English US, encodings.. nothing helped..

Somehow Windows has Kodi version 18.1 - but Linux still on 18.0 . Windows version does not have this problem.

Not necessarily. The search for banned crap remains a necessary evil. However, it is pretty difficult to find good quality rocket scientists to solve all mysteries surrounding the Kodi application. For free. In their own personal time.

I have the same issue here since switching to v18 nightlies in early August. It seems to only occur with embedded subtitles, the same video with an external .srt doesn't show a white block.

I've tested with a clean install (different user account, no addons) and the results are the same.

Linux Mint 19 / Kodi nightlies.
