Solved Kodi v18 Beta 2 Problem playing back older digital camera video
#1
Upgrade a 17.6 Windows 10 install to 18 Beta 2. Tested out some of my files, and some older video camera files no longer play properly (they played on 17.6). Sound plays, but video screen is black. The info and "O" overlays work okay. I believe it is something to do with MJPEG codec.

Log file is here: https://paste.kodi.tv/rorohaquli.makefile

Playback starts on line 1469.

Anyone have any ideas? I have confirmed that it is a problem with all of my MJPEG videos.

I've upgraded to Beta 3 and no change. Still just a black screen with MJPEG videos. I provided a debug log, but nobody has responded. Did I not do something correctly?

Have you tried the latest nightly? https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...ight=MJPEG

MJPEG is a slightly unusual format, and not fully standardised, meaning some combinations of device and player can sometimes have issues.

I would suggest the best option would be to transcode the videos into more of a common format e.g. H264 which are less likely to have issues.

Handbrake is a good transcoder that is easy to use and free

Did Kodi drop support for MJPEG videos? They played back ok on 17.6 and all versions prior. i shouldnt have to encode all my older camera videos.

MJPEG is a pretty old format, and I didn't see it in the test Samples (wiki) but it's interesting that 17.6 worked, and Leia breaks atm, keep up with the nighties.

Problem is fixed in Beta 4. The videos play back okay now.
