2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K
Frankly I think the Android OS Amazon's Fire TV is based on is trash for the kind of AV playback we're after right now- anything outside of Youtube.

Any known issues (and fixes) for interlaced content from an OTA recording?

I have an OTA TV recording via a HDHomeRun, file is MPEG-TS, MPEG2 video 1080i, AC3 audio.
When I try to play it via Kodi, the audio/video are out of sync badly, it stutters also.
Playing it via the Plex client on the same Fire TV Stick 4K, it plays fine and it's not transcoded, PMS shows Direct Play.
It is not a network issue for sure, everything is wired, no wifi.

If someone does not like the Amazon interface, I recommend it. Two lancers to choose from. Everything works beautiful for me. There is order and no ads.

I have installed it too and was curious what's new...

Perhaps just Twitch support:

Hey guys my kodi 18 is In windowed mode and I can't pick a resolution. I use to be able to pick 1080p for the gui. Also refresh rate switching fails to work now. I am running latest fire os update.

Sorted it. I just cleared data on the kodi app and all is well.

1080p VC1 content does not work well on the AFTV Stick 4k.

I had an AFTV2 that I only replaced because I wanted to watch 4K HDR content; the AFTV2 played 4K non-HDR content and I was relatively happy with it.  I have a rather large library of ISO files and a certain percentage of those were VC1 (which the AFTV1 did not work with these, AFVT2 worked fine, Fire Cube and Fire 4k did not).  Since I like the Fire TV Stick 4k enough to stick with it -- I have to resolve the VC1's.

Anyway, I came here because I was transcoding (BD Rebuilder) my VC1 ISO files to x.264 ISO files and discovered the frame rate issue (which this thread helped me resolve.) and thought it was worth mentioning VC1 not listed as a problem on the original post.

This thread really helped me with the AFTV Stick 4k, moving to Leia and getting the frame rates and whitelisting working.  Even the UGreen USB Ethernet and OTG stuff.

I think I ended up here from 'Choose the Right Kodi Box'.

Since you're keeping track of issues, note these audio problems:
1. 7.1 PCM doesn't work correctly (side & rear channels reversed). Select 5.1 audio in Kodi settings.
2. 2-channel PCM is transcoded to DD/DD+ (can be avoided by selecting 5.1 "fixed" audio output, instead of the default "optimized").

Note: if using 5.1 fixed (as opposed to passthrough), Kodi will degrade the quality of AC3 audio by default. Can be overridden with advancedsettings.xml file.

Confirming, see my earlier post 500 https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2825500 . No hardware decoding support for VC1 codec.  This is why I an still using Fire TV 3 pendants -- they do support VC1 decoding, in fact Kodi 18 works very well on these, without audio passthrough and with modification to allow software decoding for SD mpreg2 and SD H.264.

Very confused - please explain to me?

I would like to sideload Kodi on the Fire TV Stick 4K and play files from a Seagate STDR5000102 (USB 3.0 I/O & power; 4.54 TB; blue) = $109.99 https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Po...01M00UHV8/

As I've been able to glean from reading the posts on this thread; I need to add: UGreen USB 3.0/1Gbps converter = $20.95 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LLUEJFU/ + Generic b505 microUSB host OTG cable = $3.46 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LLUEJFU/

Will Kodi 18.1/FireOS 6.2.6.3 "see" this drive or do I need a file-server (NFS, SMB, WebDAV) to push the files to Kodi?

I'm looking for a super easy solution for my non-techie sister. The Fire TV won't even be connected to the net - just a stand-alone media player.

Any help will be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

UGreen USB3 > Gigabit Hub adapter: (I've seen these cheaper elsewhere)

Dear @wrxtasy,

can you tell me your sources, where I can buy that UGreen USB3-Adapter in a cheaper way?

Kind Regards,
