2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K
Up until now, I've been using a Fire TV First Generation with SPMC. This successfully was able to passthrough DTS, DD, DD+ to my Sony amp.

I've just upgraded to the Fire TV Stick 4K and no matter which build I've tried - Matrix Alpha 1 or one of Fritsch's builds (either kodi-20200822-a7a83e17-PR18319-head-armeabi-v7a.apk or kodi-20200724-acbb8160-Leia-armeabi-v7a.apk), I only see the following in the passthrough options:
  • AC3
  • E-AC3
I don't see DTS, TrueHD or DTS-HD all of which are shown in SPMC (not that I need either HD codec).  Although though they're shown in SPMC, my amp doesn't switch to DTS and there is no audio.

In Kodi, I've set Number of Channels to 5.1 and Output Configuration to Optimized
For the Fire TV settings, I've selected Always Dolby Digital Plus.  If I select Best Available, DTS still doesn't appear
My Fire TV is running 6.2.7.3. It's been stuck on downloading an update all day but it appears I'm already on the latest software

Link to my log although I can post a more complete one when trying to play DTS content if that will help:
https://paste.kodi.tv/iyuxemalod.kodi

Thanks in advance for any help!

It shows up just fine for me on the fritsch build with Expert settings enabled.

I have expert settings enabled.  I wonder if my amp is mis-reporting its capabilities?

Why do you "wonder"? It's all in your Debug Log _and_ additionally we don't trust your AMP nor any other AMP, we try to open all codecs on kodi start. The ones that work, we add.

Therefore post your Debug Log, please. Also be aware, that the fritschfiretv build has a menu where you can switch between RAW and IEC Packer in audio settings. They might support different codecs. IEC is the suggested one. But logfile will show working codecs for both.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Thanks for the reply @fritsch.  My post above does contain my log file (https://paste.kodi.tv/iyuxemalod.kodi) or have I not captured enough?

How do I switch between RAW and IEC Packer?  I can see a Passthrough output device set to "android, audiotrack" but this is ghosted-out and I'm unable to change it.

Well that's embarrassing.  I followed the link in the first post and thought all of the builds on that page were yours.  Which they clearly weren't when I looked at the names closer...

Here's a new log and it's showing only AC3 and EAC3. However the amp definitely supports passed-through DTS as it's worked correctly on an older Fire TV and the amp's display has changed to display DTS.
https://paste.kodi.tv/xifiraniwu.kodi

Amp is a Sony STR-DN1040 and specs show DTS is supported (https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/suppo...ifications).

Thanks for your continued help

What's your FireTV 4K audio setting? (In the FireTV menus?) Should be: Surround Sound: Best available if you have set it to: Stereo, it won't work in kodi.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Yes, set to Best available. I've also tried a file I know has DD+ (and always used to force the amp into DD+ with my old Fire TV) and the amp just displays PCM even though Kodi is set to passthrough AC3 and E-AC3.

Try: Keep the AVR powered on, restart the FireTV, make sure the FireTV is plugged into the AMP and _not_ into the TV.
Then: start kodi, enable debug logging there. Quite kodi, start kodi again and now post the Debug Log

Not funny, btw. I currently have no idea what is going on there. Might be some fucked up ARC setting, but let's find out.

Here's the new debug log having followed your instructions (apart from quitting Kodi and starting again as debug logging was already enabled).

FireTV is plugged into the amp and the amp is connected to my TV via ARC.  I've just tried plugging the amp into a non-ARC HDMI on the TV (and restarted the FireTV with the amp remaining on) but it didn't help.  In case this shows something different on the logs, here they are:

Sorry to be causing you such problems!

Sorry to be causing you such problems!
I've worked it out.  I went into the amp settings and changed a few things.  In the HDMI menu, audio out was set to TV and amp. Changing this to just amp has solved the issue.  I guess the TV info was being passed through HDMI and the TV definitely doesn't support DTS. Thanks for your help on this - I doubt I'd ever have checked the settings had you not said something about ARC!

Perfect :-) So - fucked up ARC - degrading your audio experience since 1999.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Very odd how my old Fire TV had no issues with the setup. Anyway, glad it’s fixed and thanks again for your help.

The "old firetv" <- this only supports AC3, EAC3 and no DTS or if used with the shitty version it just pumped out whatever it had.
