2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K
As suggested I setup my Kodi this way …

number of channels: 2.0
output config: best match
keep device alive: off
send low noise: off

passthrough: audiotrack raw
dolby digital capable: true
dolby digital transcode: true
dolby digital plus capable: true

It seems to work pretty good, wondering if this setup is better than going with 5.1 Fixed 192khz setting …

I'm trying to control the sound from my TV's optical that's running thro a DAC to my amp, which is old and does not have a remote. Kodi running on the firestick can change the volume but it does so in 4dB steps irrespective of the volume controls I've set. Unfortunately, these 4dB steps are too large.

Is there any way I can change them?

So if I read this thread correctly - in 2022 "Stick 4K" still doesn't natively support audio passthrough (eg. DTS-HD Master Audio)?
And the only option is "Stick 4K Max"?

---
In my case I would connect it to Denon AVR 1912.
Not that I need much DTS-HD. But I was used to it playing BluRay connected to AVR 1912 or BR Rips with preserved DTS-HD MA channel.
Just wondering if I'm losing much going with "Stick 4K".

I was going to free up some space on my FireTV Stick 4K, and came across a hidden file in a hidden folder of 1.6GB !!! Since the stick has only 8 GB of storage this stunned me.
The file is in "storage/emulated/0/DCIM/.thumbnails/.thumbdata4-1967290299". I know that on Android the DCIM folder is provided for images and thumbnails, but that there is such a big thumbdata4-1967290299 file inside, I had no idea.

My guess is that it can be deleted without any problems for stick's functionality. I looked at the tips on the net, and fund that after deleting the file, it is desirable to create an empty file with the same name in the same place, and only then reboot-at stick.

Question, what is the size of that file on your FSTV 4K ?

Hi,everyone. I need a small help from you guys. This HDR10+ sample is from kodi wiki page of samples to test

https://ff.wetransfer.com/downloads/0f59...114/257cf4

Please test it on your FireStick 4K and tell me your results if brightness decreases heavily or contrast increases noticeably because it doesn't on my current setup.

When tested on my tv with native kodi app, it decreases the brightness of entire scene as it should. On my  HDR10+ phone with kodi, it plays as usual too with noticeable decrease in brightness but on firestcik tv connected to my TV, there is no visible change to the scene other than the brightest part of the sky.

Same happens in Amazon prime streams, HDR10+ on firestick 4k looks very bad compared to HDR10+ on native TV app. I need to confirm if this is same on all other TVs or my specific TV. No problem with Dolby Vision or regular HDR content though

That's cache for different videos I guess.

Anyone upgrade to Kodi 20.0 and have any issues? When I setup my Firetv it had issue with the sound getting out of sync and other issues, after days of troubleshooting it has been working fine for the past year on 19.2.

Kinda don't want to deal with the audio issues again and thats why I didn't upgrade to 19.4.

Also is the Fire TV OS still 32bit requiring ARM7 apk on the 4K stick?

Hi there , I have installed one of nightly master last builds and now I get DV when playing a mkv file .

Though when checking color standard output in dev mode in the firestick 4k , i get bt2020_10_hdr10 , when in Disney app I get bt2020_10_dovi , which was what I would expect to see also in kodi when playing mkv.

Codec states Dolby vision and my tv gets the flag for DV , however color output in the firestick dev mode looks wrong .

Any thoughts ?

Hi,

Kodi build 20.0 installs to the external USB (fireTV 4x MAX OS7) but still writes data to the internal storage despite the fact that
I have set log and information to use external storage. so no way to index all my NAS media content without low storage message..

anyone know of a fix this?

TIA

Okay, I have tried the compelling to apk again, but I still couldn't do it.

Would it be possible that you make one for me with a stable version? So I can use the Plex Addon to test it?
But only if you have time for it and want to do for sure

https://www80.zippyshare.com/v/Z5dgdH2W/file.html

This is actually a binary edit of 19.1, not a build from source. I did a quick test and it seems to work. Let me know...

Is there an easy way to get this edit without compiling?
I just bought a Firestick 4K Max and noticed that Hi10p is software decoded and skips a ton of frames.

you might have done research before buying the device if it was intended for Hi10p

FireStick 4K Max does not have a hardware decoder for Hi10p - https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-t...layer.html

This is not limited to the 4K Max either, most devices do not have such a thing - https://kodi.wiki/view/Archive:Hi10P

This issue also affects VLC - https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc-a...ssues/2735
as well as MPV - https://github.com/mpv-android/mpv-android/issues/364

So, asking someone who posted almost 2 years ago about an undocumented binary patch to Kodi 19.1 for use on the 2018 Firestick isnt going to fix it either.

Hi10p has been around for over 10 years, and for as long as I remember it's been mostly software decoded.
I do have an HTPC and laptop for more demanding videos, and it wasn't the main intention of purchasing the Firestick.
This was the only thread I found on the internet that mentions a way to possibly improve performance by allowing some sort of hardware acceleration.
I don't expect it to be a "fix", but am very interested in seeing the results.

Since the modified APK is no longer available, I'll make some attempts at compiling it just for fun.

This is still 19.1 since I haven't been keeping up.

Note that only 1920x1080 works. All other resolutions (e.g. 720) fail with green garbage.

Thank you so much, this is absolutely amazing.
I didn't encounter any issues with 720p playback either.

Previously, in software mode frames would be dropped every second. Now everything plays silky smooth in hardware mode with zero dropped frames.

I've been trying to compile the latest version myself but have been running into some errors during the process.
Someone made a script on github to automate to compiling of the Hi10p fix, but I've been getting stuck on that as well:
