1. No Frame Rate switching.  Many Smart TVs fix their Android TV apps to 60Hz. (So 24p stuff gets 3:2 and 25/50Hz gets horrible judder) Some appear to use bespoke frame rate switching functionality rather than Android standard?
2. Limited audio output. Most Smart TVs will only output PCM 2.0 and DD/AC3 (some may do DTS) as they rely on ARC to get audio to your AVR.  No chance of HD Audio bitstreaming or PCM multichannel for lossless HD Audio or multichannel FLAC replay.

They often also use underpowered CPU/GPU combos (as they are really only designed for very basic Smart TV streaming) and so Kodi's GUI can appear sluggish.
Thanks this explains a lot.

1. Would that count for other streaming apps as well? So Netflix, Amazon prime face te same issue?
2. I'm aware of this.

1. Yes - but not always seems to be the answer. Some Smart TVs run Netflix and Amazon Prime TV at a fixed 60Hz (or possibly 59.94Hz) refresh, as they also do with their internal media player apps. However in Europe some Catch Up TV apps (like the BBC iPlayer) do correctly switch to 50Hz - so it seems that frame rate switching is possible, but not always implemented in every app (possibly due to non-standard refresh rate control ?)

Some of Sony's current range of DVB-T/T2 Android TVs sold in Europe with integral HDD recording (you plug in a USB HDD and it will allow you to record shows) even replay 50Hz off-air recordings at 59.94/60Hz...
Hmm, I see. Just tested on an older Sony HD Android TV (running 7.0).
  1. Grabbed test file from: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/motion/24p
  2. Turned motion smoothing off,
  3. next filmed with my iPhone on slomo: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ko9QZa...ey-nHOsDcQ
Ah well, I'll do some playback tests on the Philips once it get's here. Will also test the FPS in the Kodi interface.

At 1249,- euro's the 55OLED803 is still probably one of the best OLED's you can get. Even if I have to hook up an Apple TV 4k (which according to these forums is one of the better playback devices for Kodi, Netflix, Prime)

I can only accommodate a 49" screen so OLED is out for me. I currently run a Sony XF9005 (which Sony provided as a warranty replacement for an XE9005 that had that nasty frame drop/repeat bug)

I run an Apple TV 4K for Amazon Prime Video and Netflix - which gives me Dolby Vision and Atmos (or PCM multichannel) to my Denon AVR.   The Apple TV is a very neat solution indeed for DRM services.

Can anyone confirm that the Sony A9F TV's with eARC passthrough TrueHD over eARC to an eARC enabled soundbar or receiver through Kodi?

Never connect a SmartTV to the internet. It's spyware! They record every keystroke and send to vendor and cloud monopolist.

Have a look at the actual Vizio class action lawsuit to see the detailed user data Vizio were actually selling. IP addresses were not even stripped before distribution to 3rd parties.

If you want privacy, then there is one company that takes it all very seriously:

LOL.. I'm guessing you have a alfoil hat on 24/7.. Smile
Really, who gives a shit!!! They can record what they like, doesn't bother me! I just watch Netflix.. Grow up!

One side note, I would never ever install Kodi on a SmartTV or any android piece of crap! There fine for Netflix, YouTube etc.. but that as far as it goes.
