Setting Correct Audio-Device
#1
Hello,

I'm quite the linux-newby but i got XBMC working properly..

Did it from building latest SVN and got my remote and VFD from Antec Fusion working.

But now i still got one 'problem'...

My sound is ok, but it is a little soft.. i mean.. i have to turn my reciever up all the way.

I'm using the Analog out since my reciever doesnt accept any digital.. (next point of upgrade Wink )

Now i was searching the audio settings and saw:

Audio Output Device --> Default

Is this correct? or do i need to set another name? would it even make a difference to the sound level?

PS.

I cant seem to find the audio mixer in Ubuntu where i can higher the volumes, but i have maximized the audio in ubuntu desktop so unless there is some 'Master' Slider of some kind i can slide up.. i dont know where to look.

Sorry for the 2nd reply...

but i noticed something else..

When i'm starting a video i'm dropping LOTS of frames, but no Videoframes because sometimes only the audio stutters.. video goes perfect..

for example running 720p @ 20% for both cores.. i think something is wrong with my audio device Smile

no idea what..

Try bumping up the levels in alsamixer, messing with the device isn't going to change the volume.

Dropped frames at the beginning of a video can be expected and generally aren't a problem.

ok found out how to acces the Alsamixer and i bumped up the levels.. works like a charm now.. thanks!

Only still the dropping frames.. how many +/- is normal? i sometimes drop like 200 - 400 frames.. but i dont notice anything in the video.. just audio is sometimes out of sync in start.. just for couple of seconds..

I got 1 videofile, mkv 720p keep dropping frames.. and start stuttering while the 1080p mkv's play nicely.

I'm running on a E8400 and the CPU never hits more than 40 - 50% playing HD Content so i dont think its the cpu... as i should notice the video dropping frames too then.

Well i'll go and play/try more.. maybe i get some clues Wink

Hi Razor.

Wondering - you are using analogue 5.1 surround sound? Have you tried playing 5.1 DVDs - do they work okay for you?

Disregard this post if you're not using 5.1!
