help with xorg.conf
#1
I'm working on making a Mac mini running Ubuntu 8.04 server as my living room media front end. The monitor/TV is a Panasonic 60" PT-60LC14...I've used this display before running OS X, Tiger & Leopard w/o issues. Also Linux, but on a different box. The monitor's native resolution should be 1280x720, 720p/1080i. The install is 8.04 server. I've installed 915resolution and my /etc/default/915resolution file is:

Quote:#
# 915resolution default
#
# find free modes by /usr/sbin/915resolution -l
# and set it to MODE or set to 'MODE=auto'
#
# With 'auto' detection, the panel-size will be fetched from the VBE
# BIOS if possible and the highest-numbered mode in each bit-depth
# will be overwritten with the detected panel-size.
MODE=5c
#
# and set resolutions for the mode.
# e.g. use XRESO=1024 and YRESO=768
XRESO=1280
YRESO=720
#
# We can also set the pixel mode.
# e.g. use BIT=32
# Please note that this is optional,
# you can also leave this value blank.
BIT=

My problem is a horrible blink. The display blinks constantly when a remote button is pressed, scenes in movies change, or whatever. If I use an "old-style" xorg.conf file where I specify resolution, the blink goes away, but my movie aspect ratios are screwed. I'd really appreciate some help from wiser heads about this.
