Solved Video stuttering with latest RC1 release (Nvidia GT1030 / Windows)
#1
Hi all,

I have pretty heavy video stuttering with the latest B5 release with DXVA2 option enabled. No sync to screen option enabled.
The stuttering is NOT present when an overlay (menu/debug info) is visible. As soon as the menu is hidden the stuttering is visible.
I can provide logs if anyone tells me how to hide the debug info on the screen. The debug info prevents the stuttering to occur.

HW is NVIDIA 1030 GPU and a Ryzen CPU. Any advice/help is welcome. I can also test different settings if needed. Didn't test previous betas. Playback is works without issues with 17.6 of course.

Kind regards,

am

A debug log (wiki) including video details would be nice. I have a GT1030 too, yet got no video stuttering so far.

EDIT:
4K@30fps videos seem to go fine.
[email protected] fps video is indeed stuttering while using hw acceleration with DXVA2 enabled. (It ran fine in LibreELEC).

EDIT2:

I have added some logfiles. Before I had the impression that stuttering did not occur when in debug mode. But apparently stuttering is present all the time.
Tested wtih two different nvidia drivers:

NVIDIA driver version 388.13: https://paste.kodi.tv/yazumuxija.kodi
NVIDIA driver version 416.34: https://paste.kodi.tv/yifivibalo.kodi

Hope that this helps. Let me know if I need to add more debuging details.

FYI: if you enable debugging via the advancedsettings.xml file, you can set it to '1', and you won't have all the on-screen debug data.
I also created a github ticket for troubleshooting the stuttering of my 8K video. Maybe it's the same thing.

 My experience is you can set it to "2" in advancedsettings, and it will follow the UI setting (you get effectively 1 or 2 based on the setting).

I did add some logs in my previous post. Can someone more knowledgeable take a look?

I've seen the same on a 1080p remux  Dolby True HD / Atmos of Hans Zimmer. I remember it was playing fine before

Hi all,

there's no change in RC1. Still heavy stuttering with a BluRay ISO. Works without any stuttering in 17.6

Same issue here with RC2. GTX1080. Video stuttering with 23.976Hz refresh rate and DXVA enabled. Not happening on 60Hz.

@am2015

Looks like a protection issue with the media-> "CBlurayCallback::Logger - aacs.c:83: AACS\Unit_Key_RO.inf not found. No AACS protection." Try a better rip.

@lash78

Try software rendering, proper debug log linked in your own new post if that doesn't do anything for you.

@PatK

not sure if this is the cause of the issue. why does the same ISO work without any issues in 17.6? I see the same entry in the log that you've mentioned and it works without any stuttering. It is strange when hitting enter during playback and the buttons apear the stuttering goes away.

I just looked at the first log and the 'protection issue' popped up, would be related to audio, and if you have audio synced, it might stutter while it tries to decode. Given that you have no problems with 17.6 you might want to run 18 in portable mode, collect the log, do the same thing with 17.6 (same bare bones install) and compare the logs, might be a clue in that. I'll have to give this over to Klojum, this is the first 8K set-up I've seen in Kodi. noting (It ran fine in LibreELEC) is apples and oranges, I have seen many examples of a windows set-up chugging along at 100% usage, while the same hardware on Linux is 33% usage, so I would expect LibreELEC to fly.

i am also on RC2 and have a stuttering videoplayback on tv channels, especially in soccer broadcast the fast camera pans. That not happened on 17.6.
DVXA turned on, Windows 10 64 bit with October update. Geforce GT710, Intel I3

Same issue is also discussed here:

I can also confirm this issue, seems that old bug from 17 beta has crawled back into V18-code.  Could be just NVidia-specific as I also have 1050Ti.

Still a problem in RC4 with dxva2 enabled. hopefully this will get a fix before final release, but with no changes from builds back from July to now it does not seem likely.
