v18 Artifacts left in black bars when video calibration is used
#1
Any videos that have a large aspect ratio that induce black bars cause artifacts of the Kodi skin to appear in the area on the bottom and right side of the video output. This is only visible on my Intel IvyBridge system (i3-3225).

Fedora 29 x86_64
Mesa 18.2.3
Xorg 1.20.3

Kodi 18.0 beta 5 (with INTERNAL FFMPEG 4.0.3):

I have tried external ffmpeg 4.0.2, Mesa 18.0, and Xorg 1.19 (Fedora 28), but downgrading everything still produces the same artifacts.

Kodi 17.6 on the same system does not display these artifacts:

Can you delete Kodi calibration?
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Yes, I removed my guisettings.xml file. Set the calibration again and the artifacts returned.

I've narrowed it down to the top left overscan adjustment. If I set it to what I need (34,24) the artifacts appear in the bottom and right side. If I reduce the top left values the artifacts reduce. If I leave the top left at (0,0) and adjust the bottom right overscan to what I need (33,0) no artifacts appear.

Edit:

This is not isolated to just one system. I can reproduce it on newer Haswell hardware. The top left overscan setting introduces artifacts on the right and bottom sides on any system. The reason I saw it first on my IvyBridge system is because it is an older projection HDTV that needs adjustment. My other kodi systems do not need any calibration.

What area of the code deals with video calibration? I'll dig in and produce a patch.

I can't be the only user who uses video calibration. This will help when 18.0 goes final.

Protip: Pasting commit hashes or PR numbers is helpful. Smile

I see your fix here: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/14852

Thank you.

Last time I posted a link to github a user asked where to paste the text of the web page ...
