Req New "Gaming Support" (support-subforum) forum for end-users (non-developers)?
#1
I think that the existing support-threads in the "RetroPlayer" subforum under the development section are a little getting too long for new users to read for finding help about questions and answered that might already be asked and answered.

As the final Kodi v18 (Leia) will have a new "Gaming" window by default how about forum moderators create a new "Gaming Support" (support-subforum) forum for end-user support?

That is, as a new category in the "Support" section of the Kodi Community Forums => https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=33

Suggesting new subforum for end-user support this since you might want the existing "RetroPlayer" subforum under the development section to be more for developers in the future?

I at least believe that end-user support questions will explode as soon as Team Kodi publicly announce that Kodi v18 (Leia) will have a "Games" window.

thanx for the suggestion!

i've created a game support section here: https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=292

Cool! However, can I suggest that you rename it from "Game Support" to "Games Support"? I think that grammatically it should be "Games" in the plural because as Kodi will support multiple/numerous games, so it should not be written as "game" in the singular as is only one, (you know, 'one game' versus 'several games'). This will fit more than grammatically too, as the new window in Kodi is also named "Games", not just "Game".

That's great! I did not even think of how to structure support sections for the addons. Can I there suggest for you not only rename that sub-subforum to "Games Add-ons" (again as it is plural of games too and not just plural of add-ons) but that you also move that addons sub-subforum so that it is placed under the newly suggested "Games Support" forum instead of under the "Add-on Support" sections with the other addons? You might argue that this breaks the current forum-structure and you would be right, but please hear me out.

This would be because as game-addons are so closely tried to the games section, so close in fact that my guess is that almost all end-users will not even use the new games window section in Kodi without games-addons. At least not until if and when gains its own games-library and database so that the browsing and handling of games in Kodi (for emulated games from game-ROMs specifically) will be more similar to that of the music and video windows in Kodi.

My suggestion here would be to keep the "Games Add-ons" sub-subforum under the "Games Support" subforum until the time when Kodi has its own games-library and database built-in.

By the way, you might also want to rename the existing "RetroPlayer" forum to "RetroPlayer Development" too to make it more clear that you separate end-user support from developers support https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=194

This would be more in line with the naming scheme of developers forum for "VideoPlayer Development" https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=240 and "Android Development" https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=184 there.

sure, np.
and a big thx for identifying the threads that belong in the retroplayer dev subforum, i've moved them back to that section.

as for the 'Game' vs. 'Games' suggestion, i simply kept it inline with our current naming scheme. ( add-on / picture / video support)

Can I also suggest that you rename this "Documentation" sub-subforum to "RetroPlayer Documentation" that you can find here:

https://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=243

Maybe change its description to as I guess that sub-subforum is only meant for drafts and discussions on what should go into the wiki.

This as it is not a good idea to keep documentation in forum-threads instead of wiki, but a forum is better for discussing these things.
