Linux i5-7260U artifacts on 4k video playback
#1
Greetings,

I see some artifacts on random 4k videos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/NVArgB5WteUKa4bY8
A media file info that causes artifacts: https://paste.kodi.tv/igiwururaj

The weird thing is the following video samples looks good, no artifacts or glitches even tho they are more resource consuming than previous sample, I believe:
jellyfish-120-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit, jellyfish-400-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit .

By disabling hardware acceleration (VAAPI), I was able to get rid of artifacts, of course there're consequences: CPU load bumps up to 80% due to software decoding.

My setup:
  • LibreELEC 8.2
  • Kodi 17.6 (Git 7e52c1d)
  • Linux 4.19.0-rc7 x86_64

Hardware:
Intel NUC / NUC7i5BNK / i5-7260U
16+16 GiB DDR4 2133 MHz

IO Stats when the problematic video is playing:
avg-cpu:  %user   %nice %system %iowait  %steal   %idle

Will appreciate any help

17.6 has no support for HEVC-10 bit. The variant of LE implements a very early state of a preliminary 10 bit support patch.

Install v18 as your version is out of support here.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
