Beta Washed out colors when playing videos (only in Kodi)
#1
Hi all, I have a problem, but already did some research:
https://kodi.wiki/view/Video_levels_and_color_space
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=267528
Didn't find a solution that worked for me...

Full specs in signature.
Set my NUC (Intel graphics) Quantization range to 'Full Range'
Set Kodi to 'use limited color range' -> OFF
Set my TV to Normal HDMI black levels, for Samsung that means full RGB Color range (it's actually greyed out, means I can't change it)

When I play a video in VLC all looks fine (left), in Kodi all is washed out (right):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wpy_60H...sp=sharing

When I put Kodi in limited color range, all is even more washed out. But that shouldn't be a surprise, since my TV is stuck on full range.

How come VLC is showing the right black levels and Kodi isn't? What am I missing?

What I will try further:
1) Run Kodi v17.6 "Krypton" (I'm now on Kodi v18 "Leia" Beta 5)
2) See what those clips provide me: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2303581
3) See why my TV won't let me choose LOW HDMI black levels (Samsung saying limited range)
    edit: https://www.samsung.com/ph/support/tv-au...l-setting/

When an HDMI device that supports an RGB color range and already use the 0-255 HDMI black level range is connected, the HDMI Black Level option will be grayed out.

Before I had an ASR Beebox (N3150) all devices (GPU, Kodi, TV) set to Full range and never had any issues.

Any help or ideas are much appreciated.

With all TVs from 2015 and on I used YCBR as output instead of RGB - mostly 4-4-4, but 4-2-0 should also work.

Then set Kodi to "full range".
If that diesnt do it either change HDMI black level setting for TV input or specify the colorange (depends on TV model)

I will try and find that setting.

But if you read this
http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?s=e7...ostcount=2
and this
https://kodi.wiki/view/Video_levels_and_...ion_to_Use

They advise to set the GPU to full RGB (0-255) AND the TV to full (wich they both are in my case) for best picture settings.

Is this Antman & The Wasp in your screenshots the 4k version? I don't believe Kodi's internal player is going to tonemap the HDR down for you (I don't know if VLC does this either) so you will definitely get washed out video in Kodi for this type of content.

Nvm, took a look at your TV specs. Idek what happens if you play hdr content with the internal player, last I checked it didn't seem to work very well.

Nope, no HDR content, only SDR.

Meanwhile I tested Kodi v17.6: no difference
I put the Intel GPU on YCBR; no difference

I found a way to put my TV in low mode (so limited range), now the blacks look much better while playing videos in Kodi. I don't think all the colors are displayed correctly, but there are no washed out colors.
Strangest thing:
GPU: full range, Kodi: full range, TV: limited range... this can't be right, can it?
When I set Kodi to limited, blacks are washed out again (with TV on limited range)
I don't get it...

you get best possible picture with following settings:

tv: limited
kodi: limited
intel driver display settings: full rgb
intel driver video settings: color range: application decided

OMFG, I was so obsessed with GPU (display), Kodi and my TV that I totally missed the video settings page in the Intel Graphics menu...
Set all the image correction to 0 and set videos to limited colors, left my display to full, set Kodi and my TV to limited and... all is fine now!

Thank you so much!
