Fire TV Stick 4k LiveTV or interlaced recordings
#1
Hi,

may someone has already tried to playback 1080i live tv or records in kodi.

just got me an firetv stick 4k to play with and saw that i never get a picture ... running 1080i material.

all progressive material plays just fine (also 4k hevc), so i shouldnt have any bandwith issues Wink

shield tv also works just fine with same tvheadend server ... so wondering if kodi is not ready for this fire tv stick 4k ?

Did you read line 337 of your Debug Log?
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

 Wink ok, 2 logs here

1. starting kodi and start a 1080i live tv playback without debug enabled
https://paste.kodi.tv/sucivamido
2. start kodi, enabled debug, start a 720p stream (working), start a 1080i stream (not working)
https://paste.kodi.tv/teciviluni

thanks ahead for taking a look.

as note, tested playback also on emby and plex, emby plays the streams with transcoding (reason interlaced stream),
plex also crashes ... even when i turn transcoding on ... Wink

so i almost assume its the new buildin deinterlacer .. ?

edit.
here a log when mediacodec (both) is OFF, playback starts but stuttering with 5 fps Wink CPU up to 100 on all cores, as expected as no hw acceleration ...

Looks like Amazon only implemented mpeg2 hardware decoding and deinterlacing for the North American Broadcast TV market.

EDIT: If you are in the UK or Europe, connect a Keyboard and hit "O" and look for amc-h264(S)(HW) or amc-mpeg2(S)(HW) with a Video Stream of 50fps for Full Motion - Deinterlaced video output.

A side note to this is that the MINIX U9 when using Kodi Leia RC now does full motion deinterlacing (50fps) of mpeg2 and 25i/1080 h.264 Broadcast TV.
First time I've seen that since Kodi Jarvis. mpeg2 is still not fluid however.

The MI Box with Kodi Leia RC is still rubbish at deinterlacing.

looks like it ... as i almost only use 1080i x264 channels ... Wink

the video doesnt even start with hw acc on, only when mediacodec (hw acc) is off it starts, so only software running ...

720p/50, 2160p/50 live tv working, 1080i does not start (spinning circle ...)

Jep - try to ask amazon, please.

The Mp4 was MBAFF interlaced, funny that they can cope with that one ...

another test, installed the iptv plugin, same result, progressive shows surfave hw when showing info "o", interlaced was ...

then i installed dreamplayer (using vu+ receiver as source, enigma client in kodi doesnt work, vu client is not here ...), 1st it also didnt work, then i turned hw acc off, turned on again and since then its working there ...

then i checked in kodi again and started a channel where the stream comes from enigma (tuner enigma -> tvheadend -> kodi) and voila, there it works ...

so its not a overall issue, its a small issue i guess ... whatever the difference is ... i remember kodi on shield had deinterlace issues with tvheadend source too when zapping ...

still recordings 1080i doesnt work ...

EDIT

after changing priority its dvb-c 1080i wich is not working, also from enigma, dvb-s is working ... very weird

No Debug Log no issue - your last sentence makes no sense as you could not playback my files.

i was in a hurry then, on work now and cant remotely access the fire Wink

i ll provide some logs and also check mediainfo if i can see any difference.

explained, tvheadend server, sources are
DVB-C (available tuners are Fritz 6490, IPTV VU+ DVB-C Tuner, OctopusNet)
DVB-S (available Tuners are, IPTV VU+ DVB-S, OctopusNet)

ordered by hardware
Fritz6490 4 * DVB-C Tuners
VU+ 8 * DVB-C Tuners, 2 * DVB-S Tuners
OctopusNet 2 * DVB-C Tuners, 2 * DVB-S Tuners

when i was playing around and testing, the DreamViewer as described started working with mediacodec, then i went back to kodi and checked what possibilities there are.

Enigma Plugin, doesnt work.
SimpleIPTV Plugin, same results.

out of Interest checked a 1080i DVB-S channel (IPTV Stream from VU+), worked ...
fast check with 1080i DVB-C stream from enigma, didnt work ... thats what i meant with "very weird"

as i have some sources to test with i ll make logs and provide them here, just as note for now, logs will follow when i have some time on sunday.

the recordings wich aint working where also 1080i DVB-C (as i prefer DVB-C here as source ...).

here are some debug logs, seems its related to the service provider ... never experienced something like this.

its not broadcast related to DVB-C or DVB-S, seems cable provider private channels HDTV has issues, sky cable HDTV works, same caid ...

started here with working 1080i
https://paste.kodi.tv/yaquhoqaba

then starting working sky channel and zapping to a private 1080i
https://paste.kodi.tv/wofuhekive

then starting directly to a private 1080i
https://paste.kodi.tv/esajopitef

may u see what could be the reason ...

thanks ahead for taking a look

Running Leia RC1 32 bit Android on a Fire TV Stick 4K with both Media Codec (Surface) and Media Codec enabled (default settings on installation).

Freeview SD 576i25 MPEG2 - is a bit juddery at times initially but is an i25 to p50 deinterlace. (i.e. 2x) BBC News Channel ticker is smooth.
Video Decoder : amc-mpeg2(S) (HW)
Pixel Format : Surface
Deinterlace Method : Hardware

Freeview HD 1080i25 H264 (MBAFF with i25/p25 dynamic switching)  Occasionally get a picture - but most of the time Kodi 'opens' the channel with no audio and no video but a top right play icon and the show name appears.
Video Decoder : amc-H264(S) (HW)
Pixel Format : Surface
Deinterlace Method : Hardware

Debug log for watching an H264 1080i25 channel here : http://paste.kodi.tv/setujodetu
(I was trying to watch 101 - BBC One HD - which was showing Rugby. 1080i25 H264 with 5.1 AAC audio)

i tried to track it down but sadly i cant ...

possible german broadcasts available here, DVB-C Cable Premium and Sky, DVB-S Satelite HD+ and Sky
working: Sky seems to be always working, DVB-C and DVB-S

almost all working: DVB-S HD+, sample wich doesnt work here would be pro7 HD

never working: DVB-C Cable Premium TV, sample pro7 HD, rtl HD, ...

the behavoir is always the same, kodi starts the stream, upper right corner u see the play title, as soon u hit stop kodi stalls ... also no zapping possible anymore, has to be quitted by task stop.

as those streams from the same source works on dream player with mediacodec enabled ...

2 posts up i provided the logs from crashing streans, if theres anything needed give me a hint please.

btw, cable premium HDTV streams wich where recorded also doesnt work, same behavior ...

so its not a general 1080i/50 issue, its related to something .. what kodi in combination with this fire tv stick doesnt like Wink

and cross tested of course, same source all streams running fine, sample dream player on fire stick, kodi on windows, kodi on shield, vlc on windows, plex and emby on shield, plex and emby in browser, ..
