Install MePo 1.20 PVR client
#1
I run a MediaPortal 1.20 backend on a remote Windows 10 machine, which also has a working Kodi 17.6 for Windows installation on it.

I've just installed Kodi 17.6 on my Linux Mint 18 PC and it seems no PVR add-ons are installed by default, so I can't connect to my MP server.  I have burnt a couple of hours searching for how to install PVR client add-ons with no joy. Under the "Add-ons" menu there is no PVR option; under "Add-ons > Downloads" there is nothing there to download PVR add-ons... it seems this should be simple and I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure this out, but - I can't!  Help please?

I've browsed the Kodi repository - not there. I've looked under Video and Program add-ons - not there.  I've Googled endlessly and everything I find says "install the PVR add-ons", but helpfully doesn't elaborate on how to do this. Confused It just seems not to be visible in any of the Kodi menus.

PVR addons on Linux are not bundled together with Kodi. You will need to install it separately for Kodi.

Since Mint is related to Ubuntu, follow the Ubuntu instructions to install the Team XBMC ppa: ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
See:
https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Ko...nux#Ubuntu

Then install the PVR addon using:
sudo apt-get install kodi-pvr-mediaportal-tvserver
(From: https://kodi.wiki/view/Ubuntu_PVR_add-ons)
Developer of the MediaPortal PVR addon and retired developer of the Argus-TV PVR-addon.

Thank you for this info, very helpful. I got the add-on successfully installed.  Initially I was having no joy getting any recordings or live TV from the server until I opened up port 9596 in the linux firewall - now working like a bought one.
