Win Testers needed ! - HW video decoding re-work (DXVA2)
#1
These test builds could possibly be unstable. Proceed with caution and always backup your settings!

What is this:
  • These are test builds for anyone who would like to help with testing the HW video decoding re-work on Windows (DXVA2).
  • There is nothing new for Windows 7 users
  • No new features have been added to this version beside the current development done in Kodi nightly builds.
  • Make sure you have the latest driver for your video card installed.
The main aim of this thread is to help identify issue related to the HW video decoding upgrade and not meant for general problems.

How to help:

Please include in your post:
  • Say if this was also an issue in previous builds or not.
  • A full Debug Log posted on paste.kodi.tv or pastebin.com
  • Possible crashlogs uploaded for download. Make sure you have the correct .pdb file placed in the install folder
  • The build date (in the download URL or in system info on Kodi). Specify which one you tried.
  • Details about your system (OS, hardware specs, videocard, driver etc)
  • Steps needed to reproduce the issue: play a movie
  • The more details, the better.
  • You may also provide a sample video which causes an issue

Where to download:
Specific test builds are listed below. Other files in the "test-builds" directory are unrelated to this testing.
Builds will be updated on regular bases. Make sure you always try the most current one listed below before reporting problems.

Windows:
  • v18.1-RC-dxva-x64 Installer (05 February)
  • please also download the .pdb file here, rename it to Kodi.pdb and place it alongside the Kodi.exe inside the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi). Re-download the correct file each time you are install another test build. This helps us to identify possible crashes.

Example post
Quote:
  • Hardware: Windows 10 64bit, NVIDIA GT1030, driver-version 400.xx
  • Debug Log: pastebin.com/xxxxxxxxxxx
  • Crashlog: Dropbox lin
  • Description: Video problems while playing back VC-1 files. This did not happen while testing KodiSetup-20190101-xxxxxxx-master.exe
  • Screenshots: Dropbox link
  • How to reproduce: Playing back a VC-1 video file. I have provide a sample file for download.

Any irrelevant post will be removed without notice!

Changes:

The changes are quite obvious. A re-work HW video decoding implementation.

Hello,
i made some tests last days and for me everything looks good even with my critical 720p50 German pvr channels like ARD or ZDF. I also test pvr with 1080p50, 2160p50 and movies with 1080p23. I am on win 10-1809, nvidia 1050TI with 417.58.
Thanks for your work.

your log doesn't contain any video playback with dxva decoding. it has only one playback mpeg4 file which was decoded in sw mode.

Ok, might be i'm just stupid then. I used automode for the renderer. if i change it now to force software renderer this video plays without issues.
same video plays on kodi 17.6 in automode without issues. now i made a video with forced renderer.

So that's no dxva mode issue?

rendering method DXVA it's not the same as decoding method DXVA2. Selecting render method you choose a path how to display decoded picture. Kodi decodes video only by two methods: by CPU i.e. SW method and DXVA2 ie. HW decoding.
#7
@skybird1980 which results do you have with the same sample in Kodi 17.x and DXVA render method?

@afedchin: Not sure if it helps you as I was not able to download the testversion posted in this thread. I used: KodiSetup-20190124-bd99f17b-master-x64.exe

Hardware: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
Software: Windows 10 64 Bit Professional, NVIDIA Driver Version: 417.22

Issues:
No issues! No skipped or dropped frames. All works as expected.

Thank you for your work.

@afedchin: Tested with current version provided above: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/windo...va-x64.exe

Hardware: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
Software: Windows 10 64 Bit Professional, NVIDIA Driver Version: 417.22
Issue: 3D playback seems to be broken for sbs and top/down. Either the right part (sbs) or lower part (top/down) of video is flickering. When switching TV to 3D then the flickering continues and 3D is broken.
Debug Log: (3 parts) https://paste.kodi.tv/mevefiyiwe.kodi https://paste.kodi.tv/zipubemofu.kodi https://paste.kodi.tv/quberuqafa.kodi
Image of the Issue: not available
Video File: downloaded from youtube: https://youtu.be/Ebpi6EIsr5Y The Hobbit The Desolation Of Smaug 3D 2013 1080p BluRay Half SBS DTS x264 PublicHD DEMO Issue occurs with all other 3D files (x264)
How to reproduce: play sample file

Apart of the 3D playback issue, there are NO issues with any other files in 2D. No skips and no framedrops.

If you want me to do more testing or need more info, just let me know.

Kind regards,

Forced DXVA: Green Screen
Autodetect or Software Decoding or Pixel Shaders: Picture works

Stereoscopic rendering isn't a part of this update. Please create a separate thread/issue

It looks like a driver issue. Seems your driver doesn't allow uploading data to NV12 dynamic texture.

@afedchin: I'm confused. The stereoscopic flickering/"jumping" of the video only occurs in your testversion provided above. It does not happen in the "standard" nightly e.g. KodiSetup-20190126-d465913c-master-x64. Do you want me to open a new topic for your specific KodiSetup-20190125-85e74285-dxva-x64 version?
