NextPVR client LiveTV stutter on Win10 Kodi 18
#1
Hi,
Seeing stutter in LiveTV on NextPVR Client 3.3.12, Windows 10 64bit, Kodi 18.0, NextPVR 4.2.2 backend
*** I will attach a DEBUG log if someone can tell me where for a zip file. The uncompressed is 22MB. Won't upload when pasted. ***
I have noticed the NRecord process on windows goes to 25% instead of 6% at times when this stutter is observed. This happens even when LiveTV is not active but Kodi is open. I do not see this increase when using NextPVR frontend.
I have noted when the stutter is observed and have the timestamps (visual from desktop so accuracy is not precise): 9:03:58, 9:04:44, 9:08:55, 9:13:57. (for log purposes once uploaded)

UWP had upgraded my 17.6 to 18.0 and I had lost all settings. I deleted UWP version and installed desktop executable. Initially it installed 64bit version under Program Files (x86). I later installed again under Program Files but the problem persists.
Backend is set to timeshift - timebase. Timeshift is enabled in client but I still see this when disabled.

Let me know if addition info is needed.

Here's a link on how to properly create logfiles in Kodi: Log_file/Easy (wiki)

Just paste the pastebin link that you get shown into your reply Smile

Hi Slomo,

The paste bin won't take it because it's 22MB. I need to zip the file and upload so I placed it on OneDrive

DEBUG Log zipped

Is it any better with debug logs disabled With the combination of NextPVR and Kodi logs being written you are potentially impacting performance?   Also your NextPVR logs would be useful if the server CPU is jumping.

Hi emveepee,

I see this CPU % whether the LiveTV is even going so I don't have the logging enabled as debug. With TV and normal logging I still see it but sometimes it's through out the viewing time and others in spurts.

So you want me to wait to see the CPU higher than normal and then capture just that porting so it's not a huge log?

emveepee,

Additionally, the timestamps above indicate when the stutter happened but those periods are also when the CPU was higher than normal for the backend. If you're saying it's too large to view or debug let me know and I will retake so it's under 1MB and while the CPU is high.

As always, thanks.

No I meant the debug log is very spammy so I wanted to rule out disk writes as a problem.  Since you are running on the server NextPVR is also writing to it's logs and to the timeshift file so there is a lot of disk access.  NextPVR logs really would help if turning off debug doesn't help.

Ok I do see the delay now, but you didn't upload all the NextPVR logs.  In NextPVR there is an option to create a zip file on the setup screen.  That zip  is the file we need.  Since it is ATSC there is a possibility that data is not getting recording too.

Thanks unfortunately the server logs don't go back to the stutter times you indicated.  I do see the server making unnecessary calls to get obsolete EPG data that I have reduced for a future PR but that is about it.

Hi emveepee,

Can you take one more look? No timestamps since the log grows too fast but the stutter happens several times in this short segment. Also know that the mouse control is not smooth even when the TV is inactive and just trying to navigate around Kodi. I have to disable the add-on to get  it to be smooth and responsive.

Let me know if turning on logging with PVR client focus would help.

Sorry those logs show nothing indicating that Kodi is having a problem with the file.  Mike might need to get involved to see if he sees anything in the timeshifting logs.  I have a beta version that eliminates the bogus calls that Kodi is making to see if it helps and also tries an alternative approach to timeshifting to see if the stutter is protocol related.  If you are interested I can get that file to you.

Martin,

At this point I'll try anything. Sure, pass it along. Thanks.
