How to remove [Missing] Tag
#1
One mp3 in an album was missing the artist tag and it got filed under "[Missing]".

I fixed the mp3 file, tried "Clean Library", but the song is still listed under a "missing" artist.

What's the procedure for fixing this?

Rescan using "update music library" should fix this. "Clean Library" only removes deleted files but doesn't update modified ones.

I just tried that. No change.

Try renaming the album's root folder to something else temporarily, do a Clean Library action, the album should vanish. Then re-rename it to the proper name, and Scan it for new content.

At the moment there is no easy way to refresh/update music tags. The same goes for videos unfortunately.

Okay, I just tried this.

After renaming the album's root folder and doing a Clean Library, the album disappears as expected, but the top item in the list of Artists is still [Missing]. The list of albums under [Missing] is empty i.e., "..".

By "Scan It", I presume you mean Update Library on the left sidebar. After I did that, the album reappears, but I still see [Missing] in the Artists list.

How do I get rid of this [Missing] at the top of the list of Artists?

That's a weird issue you have there. If [missing] is empty the I'd expect "clean library" would solve the issue... Just a hunch I have, is the setting "Show song and album artists" on or off?
If it's off, the library is not showing all artists and if one of those were [missing], you might end up with an empty [missing] item.
It's a long shot though.

You could start fresh by deleting the entire library file but if the problem is in one of your music files it will probably return. If you've enabled logging, maybe a logfile after a clean library and a full scan might give us a clue at what's going on.

Yes, it's enabled.

I could paste a logfile to paste.kodi.tv, but I'm not sure how to get it. I'm on a Linux box. Where do I find the logfile?

The log file is in ~/.kodi/temp

You can also install pastebinit via sudo apt install pastebinit, and then go pastebinit ~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log.

First you need to enable logging: https://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file, and upload the file to pastebin, or https://paste.kodi.tv/

You can find out where logfiles are located on the various operating systems here: https://howtomediacenter.com/en/how-to-c...-log-file/
Another way would be to use the "Kodi Logfile Uploader" addon.

I'm hoping one of the developers can shed some light on the problem as well. It might be a good idea to include the [missing] part to the title of this thread, as it might attract those with some experience with it.

@mrob

Can you upload your music database to a file hosting site so we can see it?

If you want to keep the DB private you can either post the address here and then quickly edit the post and delete the link (we can still see it) or you can PM me. A quick look might reveal where it is coming from.

Just a quick answer to the how without going into the why much. It has to do with how musicbrainz lookups are implemented. "Missing" shows up for each song that doesn't have an album artist. You will need to identify the missing artists and then copy the "artist" tag to "album artist".

Okay, here's the kodi.log file: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/.../

I see lots of "ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting /media/myFile..." for movie files that exist. What's that about?

I'm not sure where to find the music database.

Edit: link redacted.
