v18 Kodi 18 (and RC 18.1) Video Stuttering issues [Android 6 / Amlogic S905X]

I shared the whole folder to public, anyone with or without box account could download them.
Only my free box account has 10GB download bandwidth limit, but it's not there yet.

I tested with another browser, open https://app.box.com/v/kodi4sonytv , without login, download works just fine.

No, sorry, I meant I can't load an addon from the official Kodi add-on repository with your Kodi-Build, although this add-on repository is enabled.

Oh, I misunderstood you word. Blush

I haven't install addon with "org.xbmc.amc" build on TV yet, but just tested on my phone, OpenSubtitles and Keymap Editor addon installed fine.
I also installed many addons with "com.amazon.aiv.eu" build on my TV, so I think there is no access protection with Kodi repo.

Maybe check your log for detail messages.

Are you still not able today to install add-ons from the Kodi repository with this build ? I'm asking because me and other users had similar issues yesterday (with other builds, versions, etc). Have a look at this post of mine, it might be related (not sure, though)

No, It's all right now. Was then due to the server problem.

So, apologies for using elder post.
I also have a Amlogic S905 chipset which started stuttering upon upgrade to 18/18.1.

Using the Amlogic tooling to change settings didn't help, did others solve the stutters when using the custom build links?

 I did not solve it.
In my case I think it's the crappy Android firmware of my box to blame.
I resorted to CoreElec (on a SD) and Kodi now runs smoothly without issues.

In the last 2 weeks, all of my Kodi builds on Android boxes and TVs around the house updated to Leia via auto update on the play store. Now they're all displaying the video stutter described in the OP. Every 5-10 second the video will pause for half a second then resume. Audio isn't affected.

I've tried all combinations of settings suggested in this post with varying levels of success, but none are a cure-all. Disabling mediacodec hardware acceleration seems to resolve the issue for around 5 minutes, then ALL video playback becomes a mess as CPU use goes through the roof.

The only box not affected is my HTPC on W10, as it's still back on 17.6. I'll continue monitoring these threads for a solution... until then it looks like I'm rolling back to 17.6 via apk. Fun times.

Thanks to all the people who've put in the time to try these settings, and to the devs who do a bang-up job with this great software!

My issue is similar to OP:

Almost every MPEG4 or XviD video is fast-forwarded when I play it normally. The audio track plays ok, but the video track is very fast until it finally begins to "stutter" to hang Kodi at last.

This only happen when hardware acceleration is on. If I turn it off, these kind of videos (XviD and other MPEG4) plays fine, but I can't play HD content with x264 and x265 codecs, so I have to turn hardware acceleration on again, which is annoying.

My hardware is a Xiaomi Mi Box 3 with an Amlogic S905 SoC and Android TV 8.0.

I am using a fresh installation of Kodi 18.1 from Google PlayStore in two different devices with same above specs.

@chrisyu could you please build an org.xbmc.amc from the 18.1 stable and of course with the switches?

Chris already has on a rolling 2 or 3 day basis. They have the mpeg2, mpeg4 and H264 SD / HD - SW / HW decoding switches in them.

The nightly Kodi Leia versions (v18.2 RC1) will be more up to date as well for Leia bug fixes:

Okay, I understood and I've tried that version!

I don't have much faith in the v18.x & in the nightly builds from Kodi anymore, because the developers often break more than they improve.

The decision not to use the switches for HW/SW encoding has caused so many problems with the playback of so many different files. With Chris' build, that's all solved with the switches: Always accelerate H264/H265 + accelerate MPEG2 and MPEG4 only from HD resolution. Even if the image then becomes slightly worse for MPEG2/4 SD content.

Thanks guys Wink

I've just put the CoreElec ISO and dtb on a flash drive here at work, and will test on my x96 s905x when I get home. I did reinstall 17.6 locally yesterday (backup wouldn't go backwards so rebuilding media database... fun times), so I'll see how CoreElec goes from flash drive first.

@chrisyu Maybe you can rename "Accelerate H264" to "Accelerate H26x" because it affects both (H264 & H265). But will probably be more complex, since you would have to do that in the language files, right?

You will love the smoothness of CoreElec.
Make sure you follow the guide regarding the remote files ( check here: https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/coreele...-files/363 ) and generally have a look at the CoreElec forums for tips and help.
I have also rolled back to Kodi 17.6 on Android (I had kept a backup before the update to 18.x). So I have dual boot, but to be honest, Kodi Leia on CoreElec is so smooth that I don't even remember when was the last time I used Kodi on Android after that.
